A fire at a derelict building in Newry city centre has now been extinguished.<\/p>\n

At least four appliances were dispatched to the scene at Merchants Quay in the city this evening.<\/p>\n

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) was called to the derelict building at 5.42pm.<\/p>\n

\u201cNIFRS received a call reporting a derelict building on fire at Merchant Quay, Newry,\u201d said a NIFRS spokesperson.<\/p>\n

\u201cFour pumping appliances from Newry and Warrenpoint, along with an aerial appliance from Portadown, attended the incident. The fire has now been extinguished.\u201d<\/p>\n

Police said earlier that the Corn Market and Merchants Quay area was closed \u201cdue to a building on fire\u201d.<\/p>\n
