Oscar winner Susan Sarandon<\/a>\u00a0said she\u2019s \u201cterrified but excited\u201d to be making her UK stage debut this fall at London\u2019s The Old Vic<\/a> Theatre starring with Academy Award nominee Andrea Riseborough<\/a> in the U.K. premiere of Tracy Letts<\/a>\u2019 play\u00a0Mary Page Marlowe\u00a0which spans 70 years in a woman\u2019s life.<\/p>\n

\n\tSarandon (Dead Man Walking, Feud) and Riseborough (To Leslie, Birdman) will play the title character at different stages of her story.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe production will be directed by The Old Vic\u2019s artistic director\u00a0Matthew Warchus (Groundhog Day, Pride) in his final season before stopping down in September 2026.<\/p>\n

\n\tSarandon has appeared both on and off Broadway several times beginning with\u00a0An Evening with Richard Nixon and \u2026\u00a0that ran 16 performances at the Shubert Theatre in 1972. She last trod the boards in NYC in Jesse Eisenberg\u2019s\u00a0Happy Talk\u00a0at the Pershing Square Signature center in 2019.<\/p>\n

\n\tI saw her in Eisenberg\u2019s play. Prior to that I caught her and Geoffrey Rush in an adaptation of Eugene Ionesca\u2019s\u00a0Exit the King\u00a0at the Ethel Barrymore in 2009.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a comment released via The Old Vic, Sarandon said: \u201dI\u2019m so honored to be asked to be in a play during Matthew Warchus\u2019 final season at The Old Vic. Terrified but excited.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWarchus has lured Sarandon over while also managing to entice Riseborough back to her theater roots here in Blighty for the first time since she starred with Kenneth Branagh and Tom Hiddleston in\u00a0Ivanov\u00a0in a 2008 production directed by Michael Grandage for the Donmar Warehouse Theatre\u2019s West End season at Wyndham\u2019s Theatre.<\/p>\n

\n\tHowever, New Yorkers welcomed her more recently, relatively speaking, in Alexi Kaye Campbell\u2019s\u00a0The Pride\u00a0with Hugh Dancy, Adam James and Ben Whishaw\u00a0directed by Joe Mantello. That was 15 years ago at MCC Theater. Saw that too.<\/p>\n

\n\tMary Page Marlowe\u00a0reunites Riseborough and Warchus, who directed her in the\u00a0movie\u00a0Matilda: The Musical\u00a0three years ago.<\/p>\n

\n\tLast year Warchus announced that he will\u00a0depart The\u00a0Old Vic, where he has been in artistic control since 2014. Rupert Goold, the Almeida Theatre\u2019s artistic director and also a filmmaker (Judy), will replace him.<\/p>\n

\n\tPerformances for\u00a0Mary Page Marlowe\u00a0begin at the Old Vic from September 23 and through November 1 and will be performed in-the-round, \u201cperhaps my favorite configuration,\u201d Warchus said.<\/p>\n

\n\tSome seats for the first five previews will be marked at the bargain price of $13.71 (\u00a310).<\/p>\n

\n\tThe original production premiered at Chicago\u2019s Steppenwolf Theatre in 2016, transferring to off Broadway in 2018.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe play\u2019s about choices, both mundane and gripping, and where those choices have taken the title character over her lifetime with children and three husbands. Other members of the large cast are still being assembled.<\/p>\n
