{"id":227808,"date":"2025-06-30T23:21:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-30T23:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/227808\/"},"modified":"2025-06-30T23:21:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-30T23:21:10","slug":"germanys-leag-suspends-h2ub-green-hydrogen-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/227808\/","title":{"rendered":"Germany&#8217;s LEAG suspends H2UB green hydrogen plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Germany\u2019s LEAG suspends H2UB green hydrogen plan<\/p>\n<p>BERLIN, June 27 (Reuters) \u2013 Plans to build one of Europe\u2019s largest green energy hubs on the site of disused coal-fired power plant units in eastern Germany have been postponed indefinitely, energy firm LEAG said on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement comes a week after ArcelorMittal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/companies\/MT.LU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(MT.LU),<\/a> dropped plans to convert two German steel plants to carbon-neutral production, citing high energy costs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hydrogen-central.com\/media-kit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <img decoding=\"async\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 370px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 370\/300;padding: 0px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/1-1.png\" alt=\"hydrogen central advertise\" class=\"lazyload\"\/> <\/a><\/p>\n<p>LEAG said H2UB Boxberg was being postponed as political and economic conditions for the plant had not developed as expected.<\/p>\n<p>It said the previous coalition government had indefinitely delayed implementation of the federal Power Plant Safety Act, a key regulatory pre-condition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A LEAG spokesperson, <\/strong>said:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>We are currently postponing plans for hydrogen production in Boxberg and initially shifting our focus to other technologies for the generation, storage, and flexible provision of electricity,<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>LEAG announced the project in April 2024. It called for the construction of a centre for hydrogen production and energy use, along with large-scale green electricity storage, on the grounds of lignite-fired power station units that were decommissioned in the 1990s.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, the company announced its ambition to bring 7 gigawatts (GW) of solar and wind capacity online by 2030 and committed to investing 1 billion euros annually.<\/p>\n<p>LEAG is based in eastern Germany\u2019s Lusatia region and owned by Czech investor EPH.<\/p>\n<p>It said there was no reliable implementation schedule yet for the timely and cost-effective availability of hydrogen infrastructure in the region.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The spokesperson<\/strong>, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The hydrogen economy is far from its expected increase.
