Asia-Pacific markets traded mixed Tuesday as investors assessed the record gains on Wall Street and the global impact of U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff policies as his\u00a090-day tariff reprieve<\/a>\u00a0is set to expire next week.<\/p>\n

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Monday that there are “countries that are negotiating in good faith<\/a>.” However, he added that tariffs could still “spring back” to the\u00a0levels announced on April 2<\/a> “if we can’t get across the line because they are being recalcitrant.”<\/p>\n

Japan’s<\/a> Nikkei 225<\/a> benchmark fell 1.03% after\u00a0hitting an over 11-month high<\/a>\u00a0in its previous session, while the broader Topix index declined by 0.56%.<\/p>\n

In South Korea, the\u00a0Kospi<\/a>\u00a0index rose 1.67%, while the small-cap Kosdaq added 0.66%.<\/p>\n

Over in Australia, the\u00a0S&P\/ASX 200<\/a>\u00a0increased by 0.15%.<\/p>\n

Investors will be keeping a watch on China’s Caixin\/S&P Global manufacturing purchasing manager’s index for June. Analysts polled by Reuters expect a reading of 49, a tad higher than the 48.3 posted in the previous month.<\/p>\n

Hong Kong markets are closed for a public holiday.<\/p>\n
