{"id":228086,"date":"2025-07-01T01:57:13","date_gmt":"2025-07-01T01:57:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/228086\/"},"modified":"2025-07-01T01:57:13","modified_gmt":"2025-07-01T01:57:13","slug":"fe-news-new-scheme-led-by-the-sheffield-college-launches-to-support-the-citys-creative-industries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/228086\/","title":{"rendered":"FE News | New scheme led by The Sheffield College launches to support the city\u2019s creative industries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A scheme led by The Sheffield College to support the city\u2019s upcoming creative industries talent has just launched in the city.<\/p>\n<p>Sheffcol Creates \u2013 The Creative Academy is a new project that aims to connect employers in the creative industries sector with the region\u2019s future workforce.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Angela Foulkes CBE, Chief Executive and Principal, The Sheffield College, said: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe creative sector is vital to Sheffield both culturally and as a major economic force. This project aims to strengthen the city\u2019s thriving creative economy, bridge the skills gap, nurture future talent and help our students go further in their careers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added: \u201cWe want our students and Sheffield\u2019s creative industries to co-create, co-design and co-deliver learning experiences that reflect the realities of the working world in the creative sector.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Each year, the college educates and trains more than 1,000 students in a wide range of creative industries qualifications, from diploma to degree level, contributing to building a pipeline of industry ready talent.<\/p>\n<p>These students are studying subjects such as art and design, catering, dog grooming, hair and beauty, games and animation, graphic design, journalism, media make-up, media production, performing arts and photography.<\/p>\n<p>As part of Sheffcol Creates, the college is inviting creative industries specialists to get involved in the curriculum and support students\u2019 skills development in different ways.<\/p>\n<p>Employers can provide guest speaker slots, mentorship, live briefs, workshops and industry placements, and work with students on exhibitions and events.<\/p>\n<p>The city is home to more than 2,000 cultural and creative businesses according to Sheffield City Council\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheffield.gov.uk\/sites\/default\/files\/2025-01\/sheffields_culture_strategy_for_2035.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Culture Strategy for 2035<\/a> published last year.<\/p>\n<p>Creative industries businesses provide around 9,000 jobs and generate almost \u00a31 billion of economic impact annually.<\/p>\n<p>The sector includes design, digital and marketing communications, film, television, radio and podcasting, photography, and the performing and visual arts as well as other skills specialisms.<\/p>\n<p>According to council statistics, the wider regional economy in South Yorkshire comprises around 4,000 businesses.<\/p>\n<p>The Sheffcol Creates project launch took place at the 99 Mary Street gallery and event space, based within the Cultural Industries Quarter, on 24th June 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Guests included Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and Sheffield City Council chiefs, employers and college staff.<\/p>\n<p>The college offers a broad curriculum that includes apprenticeships, vocational diplomas, A Levels, T Levels, access courses, and foundation and honours degrees.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pictured (from left to right)<\/strong>: Louisa Harrison-Walker OBE, Chief Executive, Sheffield Chamber of Commerce; Angela Foulkes CBE, Chief Executive and Principal, The Sheffield College; Alexis Krachai, President, Sheffield Chamber of Commerce; and Diana Buckley, Director of Economy, Skills and Culture, Sheffield City Council.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A scheme led by The Sheffield College to support the city\u2019s upcoming creative industries talent has just launched&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":228087,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_share_on_mastodon":"0"},"categories":[8817],"tags":[748,89765,393,4884,1620,16,15],"class_list":["post-228086","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-sheffield","tag-britain","tag-creative-industries","tag-england","tag-great-britain","tag-sheffield","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/114775500029605042","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/228086","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=228086"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/228086\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/228087"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=228086"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=228086"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=228086"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
