<\/a> <\/p>\nWheatley Homes with Mast Architects and Mike Hyatt Landscape Architect are progressing plans for 29 apartments on a large brownfield site opposite Baillieston train station.<\/p>\n
Formerly home to a community centre, demolished in 2012, the Caledonia Road site has remained unused to the present day, despite enjoying a highly accessible position in the heart of the town centre.<\/p>\n
An L-plan apartment block for the established residential area will offer defensible planting to screen ground-floor flats, with 850sq\/m of communal amenity space bisected by new pedestrian through routes.<\/p>\n
In a design statement, Mast Architects<\/a> wrote: “Stepped accesses around the northern and eastern perimeter provide direct connections to the existing street network, avoiding a circuitous route around the southern boundary. The original access for the site on Caledonia Road<\/a> is retained and forms the vehicular access to the back court, as well as offering easy pedestrian access to the station and nearby bus stops.<\/p>\n “Planted embankments are introduced to mitigate the level change between the interior of the site and the perimeter streets, with these also avoiding costly retaining structures. These embankments allow elements of level private amenity space to be included, achieving an appropriate balance between outlook, topography and usable \u2018garden\u2019 space.”<\/p>\n The three-storey pitched roof block will be finished in brick with black plank-style cladding drawing attention to the stairwells.\u00a0<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t 850sq\/m of communal amenity space is provided<\/p>\n\n \n <\/a> <\/p>\n
