It can also provide access to a range of other benefits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The benefit tops up income to a minimum of \u00a3227.10 per week for single pensioners and \u00a3346.60 for couples &#8211; more if a person has a <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/lifestyle\/money\/state-pension-boost-disabled-people-32704018\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"disability or caring responsibilities.Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">disability or caring responsibilities.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Other help if you get Pension Credit<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">If you qualify for Pension Credit you can also get other help, such as:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Housing Benefit if you rent the property you live in<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Support for Mortgage Interest if you own the property you live in<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Council Tax discount<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Free TV licence if you are aged 75 or over<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Help with NHS dental treatment, glasses and transport costs for hospital appointments<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Help with your heating costs through the Warm Home Discount Scheme and Winter Fuel Payment<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">A discount on the Royal Mail redirection service if you are moving house<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mixed aged older couples and Pension Credit<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In May 2019, the law changed so a \u2018mixed age couple\u2019 &#8211; a couple where one partner is of State Pension age and the other is under it &#8211; are considered to be a \u2018working age\u2019 couple when checking entitlement to means-tested benefits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">This means they cannot claim Pension Credit or pension age Housing Benefit until they are both State Pension age. Before this DWP change, a mixed age couple could be eligible to claim the more generous State Pension age benefits when just one of them reached State Pension age.<\/p>\n<p>How to use the Pension Credit calculator<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">To use the calculator on <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/pension-credit-calculator\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"GOV.UKLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">GOV.UK<\/a>, you will need details of:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">earnings, benefits and pensions<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">savings and investments<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You\u2019ll need the same details for your partner if you have one. You will be presented by a series of questions with multiple choice answer options.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">This includes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Your date of birth<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Your residential status<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Where in the UK you live<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Whether you are registered blind<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Which benefits you currently receive<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">How much you receive each week for any benefits you get<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Whether someone is paid Carer\u2019s Allowance to look after you<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">How much you get each week from pensions &#8211; State Pension, private and work pensions<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Any employment earnings<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Any savings, investments or bonds you have<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Once you have answered these questions, a summary screen shows your responses, allowing you to go back and change any answers before submitting. The Pension Credit calculator then displays how much benefit you could receive each week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">All you have to do then is follow the link to the application page to find out exactly what you will get from the DWP, including access to other financial support.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">There\u2019s also an option to print off the answers you give using the calculator tool to help you complete the application form quicker without having to look out the same details again. Try the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/pension-credit-calculator\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Pension Credit CalculatorLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Pension Credit Calculator<\/a> for yourself or your family member to make sure you\u2019re receiving all the financial support you are entitled to claim.<\/p>\n<p>Who cannot use the Pension Credit calculator?<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You cannot use the calculator if you or your partner:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">are deferring your State Pension<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">own more than one property<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">are self employed<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">have housing costs (such as service charges or Crown Tenant rent) which are neither mortgage repayments nor rent covered by Housing Benefit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How to make a claim<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You can start your application up to four months before you reach State Pension age.
