So no Cristiano Ronaldo either.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>5) Sadio Mane \u2013 \u00a3100.2m from five moves for fees<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>FC Metz to Salzburg (\u00a33m, August 2012)<br \/>Salzburg to Southampton (\u00a311.8m, September 2014)<br \/>Southampton to Liverpool (\u00a334m, July 2016)<br \/>Liverpool to Bayern Munich (\u00a327.4m, July 2022)<br \/>Bayern Munich to Al-Nassr (\u00a324m, August 2023)<\/p>\n<p>The former most expensive African player in history was a one-time Southampton club-record signing who was twice transferred for more than \u00a320m in his 30s after reaching his peak at Liverpool.<\/p>\n<p>Bayern Munich weren\u2019t to know, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/clubs-who-rejected-laughable-add-ons-clauses-arsenal-liverpool\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>the Ballon d\u2019Or clause in one of the bids Liverpool rejected suggests<\/strong><\/a>. But one really quite poor season in the Bundesliga was enough for Mane to hop aboard the Saudi bandwagon within a year.<\/p>\n<p>Mane started out as the third-biggest sale in FC Metz history with his first move, having been spotted by famously ignored Manchester United surgeon and Red Bull connoisseur Ralf Rangnick.<\/p>\n<p>The Old Trafford side did try to sign Mane <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/mane-moved-to-liverpool-as-man-utd-lost-control-under-lvg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>but he outright refused to even talk to them for one fairly understandable reason<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>4) Zlatan Ibrahimovic \u2013 \u00a3125.03m from six moves for fees<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Malmo to Ajax (\u00a35.13m, July 2001)<br \/>Ajax to Juventus (\u00a310.8m, August 2004)<br \/>Juventus to Inter (\u00a316.7m, August 2006)<br \/>Inter to Barcelona (\u00a357m, July 2009)<br \/>Barcelona to Milan (\u00a319.7m, July 2011)<br \/>Milan to PSG (\u00a315.7m, July 2012)<\/p>\n<p>It obviously discounts the final three switches of his playing career, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/ibrahimovic-slams-neville-scholes-and-circle-of-ferguson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>including a couple of seasons revolving around \u201cthe circle of Ferguson\u201d<\/strong><\/a>. But in the first couple of decades of the new millennium it was almost a legal obligation for a European super club to rub shoulders with Ibrahimovic.<\/p>\n<p>Yet only once was he involved in a transfer totalling more than \u00a320m in value, that being a doomed union with Pep Guardiola in Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p>That gamble backfired abysmally as Inter became European champions through that \u00a340m fee and inheritance of Samuel Eto\u2019o, who helped dump his former employers out at the semi-final stage as a makeshift full-back.<\/p>\n<p>Even that blotch on his CV produced 22 goals and five trophies in 46 games before the Swede embarked on a more nomadic time, eventually settling for a jolly old time in Paris.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>3) Matheus Cunha \u2013 \u00a3160.3m from five moves for fees<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>FC Sion to Leipzig (\u00a313.2m, July 2018)<br \/>Leipzig to Hertha Berlin (\u00a315.1m, January 2020)<br \/>Hertha Berlin to Atletico Madrid (\u00a325.5m, August 2021)<br \/>Atletico Madrid to Wolves (\u00a344m, June 2023)<br \/>Wolves to Manchester United (\u00a362.5m, June 2025)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/opinion-newcastle-adamant-seven-word-reaction-561m-transfer-overpay\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Newcastle are absolutely adamant that Manchester United overpaid for Cunha and inflated the market<\/strong><\/a>, but that move only continued the Brazilian\u2019s trend of joining a different club every two years for an extra \u00a318m or so each time.<\/p>\n<p>Even Cunha\u2019s first transfers were hardly cheap, with his particular brand of scrappy but skilful forward play especially appealing to Your Diego Simeones and the Bundesliga teams Of This World.<\/p>\n<p>Should Manchester United perhaps be concerned the 26-year-old is yet to reach 100 appearances for any one club? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/mediawatch-newcastle-blame-manchester-united-disastrous-triple-transfer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Or that his \u00a362.5m move has screwed over both Newcastle<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/gyokores-man-tud-arsenal-sporting-chief-thwart-cut-price-deal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>any club hoping to sign Viktor Gyokeres<\/strong><\/a>? Obviously not but still.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>2) Alvaro Morata \u2013 \u00a3168m from five moves for fees<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Real Madrid to Juventus (\u00a315.8m, July 2014)<br \/>Juventus to Real Madrid (\u00a323m, July 2016)<br \/>Real Madrid to Chelsea (\u00a360m, July 2017)<br \/>Chelsea to Atletico Madrid (\u00a358.3m, July 2020)<br \/>Atletico Madrid to Milan (\u00a310.9m, July 2024)<\/p>\n<p>A career record of 222 goals in 633 appearances does not immediately conjure thoughts of a striker approaching \u00a3200m in total transfer fees having been traded between some of Europe\u2019s biggest clubs over the last decade, but Morata remains an enticing presence even in his 30s.<\/p>\n<p>Spain still make great use of his centre-forward skillset and upwardly mobile Como are thought to be interested this summer, after Barcelona and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/arsenal-sign-morata-chelsea-milan-desperate-transfer-beaten-punch-galatasaray\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Arsenal were linked with moves in January<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Morata has never scored more than 15 goals in a single league season but a path of Real Madrid, Juventus, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan \u2013 not to mention a fair few expensive loans in between \u2013 does not come cheap.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/mediawatch-moratas-real-fee-talisca-giggs-puel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>He even nearly cost Manchester United \u00a3180m once<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>1) Romelu Lukaku \u2013 \u00a3310m from six moves for fees<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Anderlecht to Chelsea (\u00a310m, August 2011)<br \/>Chelsea to Everton (\u00a328m, July 2014)<br \/>Everton to Manchester United (\u00a375m, July 2017)<br \/>Manchester United to Inter (\u00a374m, August 2019)<br \/>Inter to Chelsea (\u00a397.5m, August 2021)<br \/>Chelsea to Napoli (\u00a325.5m, August 2024)<\/p>\n<p>But the absolute king of the cumulative transfer fee is and might forever remain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/mails-on-morata-lukaku-and-the-intelligence-nonsense\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Morata\u2019s summer 2017 mortal nemesis Lukaku<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Only one player in history is capable of surpassing the Belgian overall, yet there are more than a few questions over Neymar\u2019s combined \u00a3357.8m moves to Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Al-Hilal. And in any case, the Brazilian cannot compete with the sheer volume of Lukaku transfers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/20-most-expensive-strikers-ever-transfer-history\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>As the fourth, eighth and ninth-most expensive centre-forward ever<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in terms of individual fees paid, Lukaku has been frequently identified as the final jigsaw piece by elite clubs with seemingly little idea of how to actually exploit his qualities.<\/p>\n<p>The two best and most mutually satisfactory transfers Lukaku has ever made were also among the cheapest. His 25 goals for Everton in 2016\/17 marks his best campaign in terms of personal output, while he helped Napoli recover the Serie A title upon his triumphant return to Italy.<\/p>\n<p>And even those moves cost the clubs involved, hardly known for their free-spending at the time, a pretty penny too.<\/p>\n<p>Lukaku is still the most expensive player in Inter history, is in the top ten of Napoli\u2019s biggest signings and was once a club-record buy for both Everton and Chelsea.
