{"id":228860,"date":"2025-07-01T08:47:16","date_gmt":"2025-07-01T08:47:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/228860\/"},"modified":"2025-07-01T08:47:16","modified_gmt":"2025-07-01T08:47:16","slug":"video-boxings-deontay-wilder-returns-with-43rd-knockout-win-urged-to-retire-anyway-he-could-be-hurt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/228860\/","title":{"rendered":"Video: Boxing\u2019s Deontay Wilder returns with 43rd knockout win, urged to retire anyway \u2014 \u2018He could be hurt\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"M5o5A2\">Former WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder, secured a seventh-round stoppage over Tyrrell Herndon in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmamania.com\/2025\/3\/28\/24396142\/deontay-wilder-lands-unexpected-opponent-june-27-return-to-boxing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the \u201cBronze Bomber\u2019s\u201d return to boxing<\/a> last Friday night (June 27, 2025) at Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kansas.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ExVAtb\">Don\u2019t worry, you\u2019re not the only one who had to Google \u201cTyrrell Herndon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"HmSYlG\">\u201cI was off a long time getting myself back together mentally, physically, and emotionally,\u201d the 39 year-old Wilder said after the fight. \u201cIt\u2019s been a long road for me. It\u2019s great to be back in the ring. I didn\u2019t give the fans exactly what they wanted to see, but I\u2019m just going to get better and better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"IWvqcx\">His victory over the 37 year-old Herndon (24-6, 15 KOs) marked the first appearance for Wilder (44-4-1, 43 KOs) since getting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmamania.com\/2024\/6\/1\/24169609\/highlights-zhilei-zhang-sends-deontay-wilder-into-retirement-wild-ko-queensberry-vs-matchroom-5v5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">obliterated by Zhilei Zhang in June 2024<\/a>, part of a dreadful losing streak dating back to early 2020 that saw \u201cDr. Sleep\u201d lose four of five.<\/p>\n<p id=\"NuKKWy\">That may explain renewed calls for Wilder\u2019s permanent retirement.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ohKX0D\">\u201cIt was a tune-up fight, and Herndon turned up to get beat up and I think the referee knew it, didn\u2019t he,\u201d retired super middleweight champion, Carl Froch, said on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=TG8SiHKnZ90&amp;t=147s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">his YouTube channel<\/a>. \u201cWilder, what\u2019s next for him, has he got a career left? He\u2019s lost four of his last six fights, he lost twice to Fury, he then sparked (Robert) Helenius, but then he got battered by (Joseph) Parker and ironed out by Zhang so after that you kind of think to yourself, he\u2019s finished, it\u2019s all smoke and mirrors now. Everyone is thinking, is he back with that big punch?\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"SPnqml\">Wilder has an astonishing 43 knockouts in 44 wins.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mdRc5s\">\u201cThey want to see him get in there and throw the big knockout blow,\u201d Froch added. \u201cAt one point he was 40 fights, 39 wins, 39 knockouts. At one point, literally everybody he\u2019s beaten, he\u2019s knocked out. He had that draw with Fury, and that trilogy with Fury just took everything out of him, he\u2019s made a lot of money, it\u2019d be nice now to see him probably just hang his gloves up and turn it it. I don\u2019t like telling people to retire, but I like to give my opinion on when I think these fighters are done.
