DK Oyster in Mykonos\u00a0<\/a>faced a string of complaints from outraged tourists who said they were overcharged for their food and drinks.\u00a0<\/p>\nAnd although the oyster bar boasted the ‘ultimate luxury experience’, several people received the shock of their lives when presented with the bill.<\/p>\n
From a pair of honeymooners who say they were charged \u00a325 per oyster, to a couple who paid almost \u00a3700 for drinks, appetisers and a salad – some customers say they felt fleeced.<\/p>\n
One furious couple sounded the alarm after being slapped with an exorbitant bill for a ‘quick snack’ and some drinks.<\/p>\n
Alex and Lindsay Breen, from Toronto, Canada, were supposed to be having the time of their lives while on honeymoon in Mykonos, Greece, in May last year.<\/p>\n
However, the couple, both 31, were soon living a nightmare when DK Oyster charged them almost \u00a3350 (400 euros) for a beer, a cocktail and a dozen oysters.<\/p>\n
The Breens claim that restaurant staff failed to give them a drinks menu with prices before shocking them with the astronomical sum.<\/p>\n
They also accused the restaurant of taking them to a back room to pay, rather than presenting them with the bill at the table.<\/p>\n
And when they quizzed staff for a breakdown, they were shown a computer screen which was all in Greek.<\/p>\n
Spain was last month named the top hotspot for tourist scams, with more than one million holidaymakers reported to have fallen victim to fraudulent activity.<\/p>\n
A study, which assessed figures from several countries using ONS and survey data, uncovered the top ten tourist destinations where travellers have fallen foul of scams.<\/p>\n
High on the list of popular holiday spots targeted by scammers are France, USA and Greece.<\/p>\n
