Lady Elizabeth died in November 2020, aged 79.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/topic\/queen-elizabeth-ii\" class=\"link__RespLink-sc-1ocvixa-0 csWvlP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The late Queen<\/a> was left \u201creally upset\u201d over not being consulted on the plans for the day, in remarks shared by the journalist Sally Bedell Smith, a close friend who has now recounted the exchange on her blog.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">The former monarch is also said to have voiced concerns about tensions between Meghan and the Princess of Wales.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/uk\/royal-family\/article\/queen-called-meghans-wedding-dress-too-white-for-divorcee-qcz9ck0v7\" class=\"link__RespLink-sc-1ocvixa-0 csWvlP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Queen \u2018called Meghan\u2019s wedding dress too white for divorcee\u2019<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">In February 2018, Lady Elizabeth, known to her friends as Liza, reportedly said that she had met Meghan, describing the American actress as \u201cfull of charm\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">However, the couple made clear that Meghan did not want Lady Elizabeth, the Queen\u2019s favoured party planner, to organise the nuptials, and Harry wrote to her explaining they were \u201cgoing another way\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">\u201cHe said, \u2018I am close to my grandmother, and she is content with this.\u2019 When I spoke with the Queen, she said she is not at all content\u201d, Lady Elizabeth reportedly said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/uk\/article\/lady-elizabeth-shakerley-obituary-0hv7s6txm\" class=\"link__RespLink-sc-1ocvixa-0 csWvlP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Lady Elizabeth Shakerley obituary<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Lady Elizabeth added: \u201cMeghan could turn into nothing but trouble. I was shocked when the Queen told me this, how she was so saddened. I had no idea about the conversation, that he was rude to her for ten minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">She added: \u201cThey [Harry and Meghan] had tea with her the day before yesterday. She was trying to find out about the wedding dress, and Meghan wouldn\u2019t tell her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">A fortnight before the wedding in May 2018, Lady Elizabeth had another discussion with the late Queen, whom she affectionately nicknamed \u201cJemima\u201d, amid rising tensions in the royal household.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">\u201cThe number one lady \u2014 I call her Jemima \u2014 says the jury is out on whether she likes Meghan,\u201d she said. \u201cMy Jemima is very worried. Harry is besotted and weak about women. We hope but don\u2019t quite think she is in love. We think she engineered it all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Lady Elizabeth added that \u201cMeghan and William and Kate are not working well\u201d, adding: \u201cThat is what the Queen said, particularly about the two girls.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">\u201cIt\u2019s worrying that so many people are questioning whether Meghan is right for Harry.
