{"id":229152,"date":"2025-07-01T11:21:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-01T11:21:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/229152\/"},"modified":"2025-07-01T11:21:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-01T11:21:09","slug":"meghan-duchess-of-sussex-launches-rose-wine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/229152\/","title":{"rendered":"Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, launches ros\u00e9 wine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Duchess of Sussex has launched a ros\u00e9 from Napa Valley \u2013 her first wine \u2013 as part of her lifestyle brand, which goes on sale today.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-636461 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/SXSW-2024-OB7A0018-alih-Meghan_Duchess_of_Sussex-crop2-v2-1024x861.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"861\"  \/>Image from wikipedia \u2013 https:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by\/4.0\/deed.en<\/p>\n<p>The wine, which was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedrinksbusiness.com\/2024\/06\/meghan-markle-duchess-sussex-rose\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first announced a year ago<\/a>, is being sold from today on the Duchess\u2019s As Ever website, which was launched back in , selling..<\/p>\n<p>Meghan \u2013 whose previous lifestyle blog, \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thetig.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Tig blog<\/a>, named after the famous Italian winery and another of her favourite wines, Tiganello \u2013 called the debut ros\u00e9 \u201ccrisp and beautifully balanced\u2026 [and] made for summer\u2019s best moments \u2013 from lunches that turn into dinners and sun-drenched weekends where the only thing that\u2019s louder than the music is the laughter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tasting notes talk about \u201csoft notes of stone fruit, gentle minerality, and a long, crisp finish\u201d, but there is little information about the winemaker involved.\u00a0However, according to As Ever\u2019s registration on the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB)\u2019s Certificate of Label Approval, the wine was made by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bing.com\/ck\/a?!&amp;&amp;p=df12d9ec422776d1ef4c56dbff16a5cc9f322688cf1e48d8d46da249015975a1JmltdHM9MTc1MTMyODAwMA&amp;ptn=3&amp;ver=2&amp;hsh=4&amp;fclid=09468d95-0ae2-6920-3b6b-9c070ee26fd2&amp;u=a1aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuYmluZy5jb20vYWxpbmsvbGluaz91cmw9aHR0cHMlM2ElMmYlMmZ3d3cua3VuZGUuY29tJTJmJnNvdXJjZT1zZXJwLWxvY2FsJmg9Tm14cSUyYjNnayUyZmsyS2szODJhdExQNEZBQTJtTzRsMiUyYlJlUHFpMlg5a2NiOCUzZCZwPWx3X2xzdHB0JmlnPUEyRURGQTVEN0FDQzQzQUFBMjMwRDIyRjBGMkZCQjEwJnlwaWQ9WU44NzN4MTQ5NzUzNDEzNDc1MjQ5MjU2MTE&amp;ntb=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kunde Family Winery, which <\/a>is based on a 1,850-acre estate in Kenwood in the Sonoma Valley \u2013 although Meghan\u2019s wine is marketed as from neighbouring Napa Valley.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kunde Family Wines was part of Vintage Wine Estates, one of California\u2019s biggest wine companies, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedrinksbusiness.com\/2024\/07\/californias-vintage-wine-estates-files-for-bankruptcy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy a year ago,<\/a> with plans to subsequently delist from the stock market.<\/p>\n<p>As reported by db, the family owned winery was acquired by VWE in April 2021, for US$53.1 million with the transaction funded by VWE Inc\u2019s line of credit and delay draw term loan. VWE went on to acquire wine events business Sommelier Company, cider producer Ace Premium Craft Ciders, and Vinesse Wines later that year.<\/p>\n<p>In September, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northbaybusinessjournal.com\/article\/industrynews\/vintage-bankruptcy-wine-kunde-qupe\/?pupeml=27712\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">North Bay Journal<\/a> reported that VWE had received the green light to sell a number of its wine businesses, including Kunde Family Wines and its\u00a0Central California Coast-oriented\u00a0<a id=\"link-ce4a8aaa9cc68f5931b55eb5326dd97c\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/o\/ptJwx\/https:\/\/www.qupe.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Qupe brand. <\/a>Dallas-based Adair Winery Inc acquired Kunde, along with Sonoma\u2019s Viansa winery, and Clos Pegase and Girard wineries in Napa Valley for $85 million.\u00a0 At the same time, some assets, including stored wines not in bottle were sold at auction, for around $2 million.<\/p>\n<p>Reaction<\/p>\n<p>The launch from the controversial Duchess has inevitably prompted a slew of unpleasant social media reactions and snide headlines, however celebrity wine is undoubtedly big business. For those sceptical about the combination of wine and celebrities, the success of Kylie Minogue\u2019s move into the sector proves how successful that can be.
