It\u2019s also helped to keep my long-standing knee issues at bay.<\/p>\n<p>The downside is that reformer Pilates is expensive, and home reformer machines cost thousands of dollars.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why I was interested to see that wellness brand <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/bettermelimited.sjv.io\/c\/221109\/1996791\/24569?subId1=fitandwell-gb-8301795696657316050&amp;sharedId=fitandwell-gb&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fbetterme.world%2Fproducts\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/betterme.world\/products\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" rel=\"sponsored noopener\" data-hl-processed=\"hawklinks\" data-placeholder-url=\"https:\/\/bettermelimited.sjv.io\/c\/221109\/1996791\/24569?subId1=hawk-custom-tracking&amp;sharedId=hawk-prefix&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fbetterme.world%2Fproducts\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\" data-merchant-name=\"BetterMe\" data-merchant-id=\"495606\" data-merchant-network=\"ImpactRad\" data-merchant-url=\"betterme.world\">BetterMe<\/a> offers a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/bettermelimited.sjv.io\/c\/221109\/1996791\/24569?subId1=fitandwell-gb-8871477539076090186&amp;sharedId=fitandwell-gb&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fstore.betterme.world%2Fproducts%2Fmini-pilates-reformer\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/store.betterme.world\/products\/mini-pilates-reformer\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" rel=\"sponsored noopener\" data-hl-processed=\"hawklinks\" data-placeholder-url=\"https:\/\/bettermelimited.sjv.io\/c\/221109\/1996791\/24569?subId1=hawk-custom-tracking&amp;sharedId=hawk-prefix&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fstore.betterme.world%2Fproducts%2Fmini-pilates-reformer\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\" data-merchant-name=\"BetterMe\" data-merchant-id=\"495606\" data-merchant-network=\"ImpactRad\" data-merchant-url=\"betterme.world\">mini reformer<\/a> for a fraction of the price, at $198.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p>What is the mini reformer?<\/p>\n<p>BetterMe\u2019s mini Pilates reformer is a foldable board that\u2019s just shorter than a yoga mat with movable pads and handles for your hands and feet.<\/p>\n<p>It comes with long resistance bands that you can attach to the board for upper-body exercises, as well as a small foam mat to rest your knees on during prone exercises.<\/p>\n<p>My experience trying the BetterMe mini reformer<\/p>\n<p>I love studio reformer Pilates classes, but because they\u2019re so expensive, I never do more than one a week. I was hoping the mini reformer might provide an alternative way to work on stability, balance and core strength at home.<\/p>\n<p>I downloaded the BetterMe app (subscription required), which has a range of mini reformer workouts. The first one I did was a full-body routine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">Start your week with achievable workout ideas, health tips and wellbeing advice in your inbox.<\/p>\n<p>This workout started with one of my favourite exercises\u2014<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fitandwell.com\/exercise\/bodyweight-exercises\/i-tried-this-simple-bodyweight-exercise-designed-to-improve-posture-and-now-im-adding-it-to-all-my-workouts\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.fitandwell.com\/exercise\/bodyweight-exercises\/i-tried-this-simple-bodyweight-exercise-designed-to-improve-posture-and-now-im-adding-it-to-all-my-workouts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hamstring curls<\/a>\u2014to challenge my lower-body strength and stability, then progressed onto exercises like glute bridges and lunges, with the feet placed on the sliders.<\/p>\n<p>Next, it was upper-body exercises. This involved sitting on the reformer and using the resistance band for exercises like side pulls and chest flyes. This engaged my upper body, however it never felt like a a significant challenge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vanilla-image-block\" style=\"padding-top:133.35%;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/7GM98zrVMTS2Kd6cUDscwe.jpg\" alt=\"Woman exercises at home using a pink Pilates board\" class=\"pull-right\"   loading=\"lazy\" data-original-mos=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/7GM98zrVMTS2Kd6cUDscwe.jpg\" data-pin-media=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/7GM98zrVMTS2Kd6cUDscwe.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>(Image credit: Future \/ Alice Porter)<\/p>\n<p>It revealed one issue I had with the mini reformer\u2014you can\u2019t adjust the resistance, like you can on traditional reformers, to add load. This limits its ability to provide a progressive challenge and build strength. You can also do exercises like these ones with a regular long resistance band\u2014you don\u2019t necessarily need the mini reformer.<\/p>\n<p>Another exercise I tried as part of the workout series was slow mountain climbers, using the sliders for your feet. This added an extra challenge compared to regular mountain climbers, in the same way a traditional reformer would.<\/p>\n<p>You can also use the mini reformer to do <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fitandwell.com\/features\/i-used-an-ab-roller-for-a-month-and-my-core-is-stronger-than-ever\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.fitandwell.com\/features\/i-used-an-ab-roller-for-a-month-and-my-core-is-stronger-than-ever\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ab rollout<\/a> exercises, which I really enjoyed when they came up in workouts. They involve getting into a half plank position with the arms placed on the sliders, then sliding the hands forward and back. This is a really challenging core exercise that you can\u2019t do without equipment.<\/p>\n<p>The workouts often ended with stretches and I found that the mini reformer helped me move deeper into stretches and made mobility work more enjoyable.<\/p>\n<p>My verdict on the Pilates mini reformer<\/p>\n<p class=\"vanilla-image-block\" style=\"padding-top:75.00%;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/wj6xj8UwbVzdFNV6g4aSye.jpg\" alt=\"Woman exercises at home using a pink Pilates board\"   loading=\"lazy\" data-original-mos=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/wj6xj8UwbVzdFNV6g4aSye.jpg\" data-pin-media=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/wj6xj8UwbVzdFNV6g4aSye.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>(Image credit: Future \/ Alice Porter)<\/p>\n<p>The mini reformer did mimic a lot of the benefits of the Pilates reformer, particularly in the way it added a stability challenge to lower-body exercises, as well as enhancing the effectiveness of core exercises.<\/p>\n<p>My main issue is that you can\u2019t adjust the intensity, which means it can be difficult to progressively overload your workouts without adding lots of reps, which quickly becomes too time-consuming.<\/p>\n<p>This was a particular issue with the upper-body exercises, which I didn\u2019t find that challenging with the amount of resistance available. I did hold the resistance band lower down, which added more of a challenge, but there\u2019s no difference between doing this on the mini reformer and with a regular long resistance band.<\/p>\n<p>Even with that limitation, I enjoyed using the mini reformer and it made my home workouts a lot more interesting.
