A Coronation Street<\/a> legend\u2019s time on the ITV<\/a> soap came to an end recently, but her story could have had a very different outcome.<\/p>\n Eileen Grimshaw<\/a> (Sue Cleaver<\/a>) jetted off to Thailand with son Jason last month after losing sister Julie Carp, who had been battling terminal cancer.<\/p>\n It was a devastating time for Eileen, who was under suspicion<\/a> for helping Julie take her own life, despite the fact that she was innocent.<\/p>\n Thankfully, the charges against her were dropped, but the situation caused tension between her and boyfriend George Shuttleworth<\/a> (Tony Maudsley).<\/p>\n After being invited to invest in Jason\u2019s bar across the globe, Eileen decided to end things with George and start a new life.<\/p>\n However, things could have been very different, as the producers had originally considered killing Eileen off, as actress Sue Cleaver revealed.<\/p>\n \t\t \u2018[The producers] said, \u201cWhat kind of exit would you like? Dramatic? Do you want a final death?\u201d And I said I didn\u2019t,\u2019 she told OK! Magazine<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u2018I said I really wanted\u00a0Eileen\u2019s son, Jason, to come back, and for it to mirror what I\u2019m doing in my own life. For Eileen to get out there, live fearlessly, live bravely.\u2019<\/p>\n Sue announced her exit at the beginning of the year, explaining that\u00a0she wanted to try new things<\/a>.<\/p>\n \t\t \u2018The door is still firmly open, but as I reached my 60th year, I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures, and live fearlessly,\u2019 Sue said.<\/p>\n Since leaving the soap, Sue has already revealed her next project<\/a>.<\/p>\n The actress has joined the cast of Snake in the Grass at the Theatr Clwyd and Octagon Theatre Bolton, alongside Nicola Stephenson and Lisa Zahra.<\/p>\n Sue spent 25 years on Coronation Street, and previously revealed that she was \u2018privileged\u2019 to have done so.<\/p>\n Arrow Arrow![\"Eileen,](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/06_06_coro_eileen_leave_01-d09b.jpg\")
