consequence of the policies of Western states, which for many years &#8220;ignored Russia&#8217;s security interests&#8221; and are now &#8220;pursuing a policy of prolonging hostilities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Russian president confirmed the fundamental approaches to possible peace agreements on Ukraine, the statement said, further arguing that it \u201cshould be comprehensive and long-term, provide for the elimination of the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis, and be based on new territorial realities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The duo also discussed the situation in the Middle East in the context of the Iran-Israel conflict and US strikes on Tehran\u2019s nuclear facilities, noting Russia and France\u2019s \u201cspecial responsibility\u201d as UN Security Council permanent members in \u201cmaintaining peace and security\u201d and \u201cpreserving the global nuclear non-proliferation regime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this regard, the importance of respecting Tehran&#8217;s legitimate right to develop peaceful nuclear energy and continuing to fulfill its obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, including cooperation with the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency), was emphasized,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n<p>Putin and Macron spoke in favor of settling the situation around Iran\u2019s nuclear program and other issues in the Middle East \u201cexclusively by political and diplomatic means,\u201d it said, noting that the presidents agreed to continue contacts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVladimir Putin&#8217;s conversation with Emmanuel Macron was substantive,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>The French Presidency also issued a statement stressing that Macron called for a ceasefire and talks with Ukraine and expressed his &#8220;determination&#8221; to seek a diplomatic solution for Iran&#8217;s &#8220;nuclear issue.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He emphasized the urgency for Iran to comply with its obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), particularly by fully cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), whose inspectors must be allowed to resume their work without delay,&#8221;
