Coronation Street star Jennie McAlpine has confirmed the closure of her city centre restaurant in a heartbreaking post.<\/p>\n

The actress has announced the closure of her Manchester restaurant Annies via a social media update this afternoon. The post has been met with an outpouring of love for the soap star and the restaurant team.<\/p>\n

Located on Old Bank Street in the city centre<\/a>, the gastropub and bar was co-owned by Jennie McAlpine, who has played Fiz Brown in Coronation Street<\/a> since 2001, and her partner Chris Farr.<\/p>\n

The venue, which is ranked sixth on Tripadvisor for restaurants in Manchester, first opened in 2012 and served a range of dishes, including steaks, burgers, pies, salads, and fish.<\/p>\n

In what could be nod to the ITV <\/a>soap, Annies also served a traditional hot pot featuring lamb and crispy potatoes.<\/p>\n

The post in full read: “It’s with a heavy heart that we’ve had to close the doors to Annies this week. We want to thank the amazing people, staff and customers who’ve been part of our Annies journey.<\/p>\n

“Our whole team will miss all of our wonderful customers, who we have come to call friends.<\/p>\n

“Thanks for all the support you’ve given to us all over these years. With love and thanks. Chris and Jennie.”<\/p>\n

Only last year, the restaurant was named among \u2018the best of the best\u2019<\/a> in the country at a prestigious awards ceremony.<\/p>\n

TripAdvisor unveiled its Traveller’s Choice Awards Best of the Best Restaurants list in September, which recognises the reviewers’ favourite dining spots of reviewers for 2024, with Annie’s in Manchester named in the top ten.<\/p>\n

The dining spot was previously named winner of the People\u2019s Choice award for best tea room at the Manchester Tourism Awards for its range of Afternoon Teas too.<\/p>\n

The news of its closure was met by a number of comments online from with many wishing the husband-and-wife duo, and the Annies team, luck for the future.<\/p>\n

One person wrote: “So sorry to hear. I made it a last day tradition to come for tea when I visited Manchester. My profile photo was taken inside.”<\/p>\n

Another added: “So so sorry to hear this Chris & Jennie. It’s been a pleasure being your neighbours for so long. You will certainly be missed.”<\/p>\n

A third said: “We loved Annies. It was our favourite place in Manchester. The food was amazing & the staff were always so lovely.<\/p>\n

“We’ll miss it so much.
