The \u201ccrisis\u201d around EFL Championship club Sheffield Wednesday has \u201cdeepened with six players handing in their notice after wages were not paid,\u201d according to McGrath & Percy of the London TELEGRAPH. Owner Dejphon Chansiri has \u201cnot paid salaries on time or in full for May and June, with no public explanation\u201d and the club \u201calready under a transfer embargo with restrictions on signing players.\u201d Hopes of the EFL \u201cstepping in to pay wages are remote as Chansiri still owes many other clubs for transfer payments and contingencies, preventing the EFL from solving the pay row.\u201d As Chansiri \u201cbattles to avoid full-scale mutiny,\u201d staff are \u201calso unpaid.\u201d An independent commission is to \u201cdecide on potential punishment for non-payments of wages, but a points deduction for the forthcoming season appears inevitable\u201d (London TELEGRAPH, 7\/2<\/a>). Professional Footballers\u2019 Association CEO Maheta Molango confirmed that the union believes many of Wednesday\u2019s senior players \u201ccould terminate their contracts\u201d following the club\u2019s \u201c\u2018serious and\/or persistent\u2019 failure to pay wages on time.\u201d THE ATHLETIC\u2019s Matt Slater notes the club was \u201cmeant to pay June\u2019s wages on Monday,\u201d but Chansiri \u201cdecided to pay only the club\u2019s under-21 players, as they have the highest value in the transfer market, and a portion of the salaries owed to non-playing staff.\u201d Chansiri has \u201calso paid manager Danny Rohl in full, which means Wednesday would get some financial compensation\u201d if another club hired him away (THE ATHLETIC, 7\/2<\/a>).<\/p>\n

FALLING APART<\/b>: THE ATHLETIC\u2019s Philip Buckingham writes Wednesday \u201cnow resemble a decaying club under the ownership\u201d of Chansiri.
