LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) – Many take a trip to Levi Jackson Wilderness Road Park in Laurel County to get some peace and quiet. <\/p>\n
Linda Eslinger and Herb Goodman say they\u2019ve gotten just that. However, this isn\u2019t just a getaway for the pair; this is their new normal for a while. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe went from a beautiful house to a camper, but we\u2019re in this together, we made a pact and we\u2019re just gonna make the best of it,\u201d Eslinger said. <\/p>\n
They\u2019ve been calling this camper home since their actual home on Meadowview Lane was destroyed in May\u2019s tornado. <\/p>\n
\u201cGod was with us,\u201d Eslinger said. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe probably had the tallest tree in our subdivision right next to our house, and fortunately, it fell toward the shed and not our house, or we wouldn\u2019t be here with you,\u201d Goodman added. <\/p>\n
The pair says the community support they\u2019ve received so far has been astounding, but what the pair could\u2019ve never imagined was that they\u2019d be meeting one-on-one with state leaders to share their experiences with them, too.<\/p>\n
Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman was the one to check in with Eslinger, Goodman, and other survivors on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne thing the governor always says is we\u2019ll be here until the job is done, and that requires check-ins along the way, that requires monitoring to make sure we\u2019re making progress, and so that\u2019s what I\u2019m here to do today,\u201d Lt. Governor Coleman said. <\/p>\n
Coleman said she\u2019s happy to see that 95% of the debris in Laurel County has been cleaned up, and people are in the process of getting back on their feet, but she notes that there\u2019s still work to be done at the federal level. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe governor, his office, my office, the local officials are pressing our congressional delegation, pressing the white house to get a response because that\u2019s gonna be able to infuse some much-needed funding for cleanup and rebuilding,\u201d Coleman said. <\/p>\n
It\u2019s funding that may help people like Eslinger and Goodman get back home sooner. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re gonna overcome this. Clear and simple, we\u2019re gonna overcome this,\u201d Goodman said. <\/p>\n
Lt. Governor Coleman also visited the county\u2019s emergency operation center and a damaged church. <\/p>\n
