{"id":233442,"date":"2025-07-03T01:24:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-03T01:24:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/233442\/"},"modified":"2025-07-03T01:24:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-03T01:24:10","slug":"tanaiste-to-meet-welsh-first-minister-for-annual-forum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/233442\/","title":{"rendered":"T\u00e1naiste to meet Welsh First Minister for annual forum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>T\u00e1naiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Harris will meet with Welsh First Minister Eluned Morgan in Swansea this morning for the annual Ireland-Wales Forum.<\/p>\n<p>It is expected that a new statement of co-operation between both governments, covering the next five years, will be agreed today.<\/p>\n<p>The forum was established in 2021, in the aftermath of Brexit, to help strengthen ties between both countries.<\/p>\n<p>It aimed to build on an Irish-Welsh regional cooperation agreement that operated when the UK was part of the EU, but which lapsed when the UK left the bloc.<\/p>\n<p>The first co-operation agreement was signed in Cardiff in 2021 between former T\u00e1naiste Simon Coveney and former First Minister Mark Drakeford.<\/p>\n<p>Previous achievements from the forum include the Greenlink interconnector between Wexford and Pembrokeshire.<\/p>\n<p>The new 2030 Statement will establish a new framework for bilateral co-operation until the end of the decade.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking ahead of the forum, T\u00e1naiste Simon Harris said that the new shared statement &#8220;underlines the breadth of connection between us, across trade, research, energy, culture and language&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Morgan described the new statement as a &#8220;step forward&#8221; in the relationship between both countries.<\/p>\n<p>As part of today&#8217;s forum, both Mr Harris and Ms Morgan will meet with researchers at Swansea University, who are working with research colleagues in Cork and Limerick.<\/p>\n<p>They will also meet with the energy company MaresConnect, which is building an interconnector between Wales and Ireland.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"T\u00e1naiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Harris will meet with Welsh First Minister Eluned Morgan in Swansea&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":233443,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5010],"tags":[748,4884,16,15,1764],"class_list":{"0":"post-233442","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-wales","8":"tag-britain","9":"tag-great-britain","10":"tag-uk","11":"tag-united-kingdom","12":"tag-wales"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/114786695858670632","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/233442","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=233442"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/233442\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/233443"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=233442"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=233442"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=233442"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
