A GROUP calling for an end to the monarchy has been protesting in Edinburgh as the Royal family arrives for Holyrood Week.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The King<\/a> and Queen touched down yesterday via helicopter, and have been spotted at events across the city already.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0They were met with Republic Edinburgh campaigners who were holding a rally outside the Scottish Parliament<\/a> building.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Activists were also seen holding placards that spelt out \u201cnot my king\u201d within sight of the annual Royal Garden Party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Republic is a campaign group \u201ccommitted to the abolition of the monarchy\u201d and organises events across the country to raise awareness of their cause.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Yesterday, they shared images of protestors holding bright yellow placards that read \u201cCitizen not Subject\u201d and \u201cDown with the Crown\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Local activists gathered at Holyrood as King Charles III received the keys to the city of Edinburgh to kick off his week-long residence at the palace.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Before the protest, Republic Edinburgh said: \u201cJoin us for our next protest so we can make sure that Charles and Camilla get the welcome to Edinburgh that they deserve and ensure they get the message \u2013 Edinburgh doesn\u2019t want a King.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll also be making it clear to the Lord Provost<\/a> that he\u2019s no business giving the keys of our city to an unelected, unaccountable monarch who has never called Edinburgh home.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Holyrood Week or \u201cRoyal Week\u201d is when the reigning Monarch visits a variety of regions in Scotland, meeting members of the community and hosting a series of events.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Yesterday, the Royals also enjoyed a garden party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, alongside some of his first female Scottish bodyguards.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Republic protestors climbed a nearby hill and were seen holding large signs that spelt out \u201cnot my king\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Campaigners shared: \u201cRepublic Edinburgh activists have just told Charles he\u2019s not their King at a Royal Garden Party\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Royal family will be participating in events across the country until Friday.\u00a0<\/p>\n
