Kate Middleton<\/a> continued her gradual return to public duties this week with a candid admission about her recovery from cancer.<\/p>\n

The Princess of Wales visited<\/a> England\u2019s Colchester Hospital on Wednesday, where she spoke at length about the \u201croller coaster\u201d\u00a0she\u2019s experienced in the year after going public with her cancer diagnosis.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment. Treatment\u2019s done, then it\u2019s like, \u2018I can crack on, get back to normal,\u2019 but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult,\u201d she said, as seen in footage of the event shared by \u201cGood Morning America\u201d<\/a> and other outlets.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you\u2019re not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to,\u201d she added. \u201cAnd actually, someone to help talk you through that, show you and guide you through that sort of phase that comes after treatment, I think is really valuable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in her remarks,\u00a0Middleton alluded<\/a> to the challenges of finding \u201cyour new normal\u201d after undergoing treatment.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a roller coaster, it\u2019s not smooth, like you expect it to be,\u201d she said. \u201cBut the reality is you go through hard times.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Princess of Wales\u2019 visit coincided with the opening<\/a> of Colchester Hospital\u2019s Wellbeing Garden, billed as a \u201crestorative space\u201d for those working in or visiting the hospital. She helped plant <\/a>several\u00a0\u201cCatherine\u2019s Rose\u201d plants that were donated to the facility for the occasion.<\/p>\n

Middleton went public<\/a> with her cancer diagnosis in March 2024. Though she has never clarified what type of cancer she had,\u00a0she confirmed <\/a>in September that she\u2019d completed chemotherapy. In January, she shared that her cancer was in remission.<\/p>\n

Her Colchester Hospital appearance comes just weeks after she canceled plans to attend<\/a>\u00a0Royal Ascot,\u00a0a five-day series of horse races, alongside husband Prince William and other members of the British royal family.<\/p>\n

A royal source later told ABC News<\/a> that Middleton was \u201cdisappointed not to be there today but she has to find the right balance as she fully returns to public facing engagements.\u201d<\/p>\n
