Police have issued an update after a woman died at a city centre hotel. Merseyside Police<\/a> were called to the Lord Nelson Hotel on Hotham Street at around 1.40pm on Friday, April 11.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called after a 58-year-old woman had been found unconscious inside the hotel. She was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

When the ECHO went to the scene<\/a>, there was a huge police presence outside the hotel, with multiple police cars and vans parked on Lord Nelson Street and Holtham Street. Forensic officers in white suits could be seen going in and out of the hotel, while part of the street was cordoned off by police.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, April 12, Merseyside Police confirmed a 52-year-old man from Liverpool <\/a>was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was taken to police custody to be interviewed. In an update today, Tuesday, April 15, a spokesperson for the force confirmed the man had since been conditionally bailed.<\/p>\n

At the time of the incident, several people at the hotel reported being told not to leave their rooms. One woman told the ECHO<\/a> that residents on the top floor of the three-storey building had been told to stay inside.<\/p>\n

Another man, who lived on the second floor, said he had been told he was not allowed to go back into his room, and had no idea when he would be able to get back inside. The ECHO <\/a>understands the Lord Nelson Hotel is currently being used as a community-based residential house.<\/p>\n

An investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident and the cause of her death. On Saturday, Detective Superintendent Paul Grounds said: \u201cThese are still the early stages of our investigation and our work will continue at pace at the location and elsewhere, as we look to piece together what happened.<\/p>\n
