Officials say doing so will make your holiday more stress-free, and will help keep you and your money safe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The fresh warning comes from the Ministry of the Interior, Government of Spain. They are advisiing people to consider these four things before and during your holiday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Taking to X, they wrote: &#8220;Are you travelling? May your vacation be top-notch and not a scare&#8221;. They ask people to:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Watch your luggage<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Lock your suitcases<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Separate money and cards<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Be careful with bags and pockets in crowds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In a separate warning on the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/foreign-travel-advice\/spain\/safety-and-security\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">GOV.UK<\/a> website, the UK Foreign Office said: &#8220;You must provide photo ID if asked by a police officer. This includes the Guardia Civil and national, regional and local police forces. The police have the right to hold you at a police station until they have confirmed your identity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Ignoring direct requests of a police officer can be considered as \u2018disobedience\u2019, which is a criminal offence. Hotels, tourist accommodation and car rental companies have a legal duty to register passport and other details of tourists who check in or collect a vehicle.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">They add that when checking into your accommodation, wait until hotel staff have recorded your passport details or made a copy. Do not leave your passport at reception to pick up later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You may also be asked to show identification when making purchases with a credit or debit card. While some shops may accept a driver\u2019s licence or a copy of your passport, others may require the original passport.<\/p>\n<p>Content cannot be displayed without consent<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Holidaymakers or those on business should also note that Spain follows <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/europa.eu\/youreurope\/citizens\/travel\/entry-exit\/non-eu-nationals\/index_en.htm\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Schengen area rules<\/a>. This means your passport must:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">have a \u2018date of issue\u2019 less than 10 years before the date you arrive \u2013 if you renewed your passport before 1 October 2018, it may have a date of issue that is more than 10 years ago<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">have an \u2018expiry date\u2019 at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave the Schengen area (the expiry date does not need to be within 10 years of the date of issue)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Confirm with your travel provider that your passport and any other travel documents meet the necessary requirements. <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/renew-adult-passport\/renew\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Renew your passport<\/a> if needed.
