{"id":234786,"date":"2025-07-03T13:15:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-03T13:15:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/234786\/"},"modified":"2025-07-03T13:15:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-03T13:15:11","slug":"king-charles-and-queen-camilla-pay-tribute-to-queen-elizabeth-ii-in-a-moving-dedication-ceremony-at-st-giles-cathedral","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/234786\/","title":{"rendered":"King Charles and Queen Camilla pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II in a moving dedication ceremony at St Giles&#8217; Cathedral"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Their Majesties braved the rain to pay their respects to the late Queen Elizabeth<\/p>\n<p>AARON CHOWN\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after the ceremony, Reverend Dr Rennie continued to pay tribute to the late Queen, says The Standard, with the minister adding: \u2018It has been a great honour and privilege to welcome their majesties King Charles and Queen Camilla back to St Giles\u2019 for such a special event as we commemorate the late Queen Elizabeth, who visited the cathedral many times, with the dedication of the memorial stone.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The stone itself, with its simple engraving of the ER cypher and the Crown of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tatler.com\/topic\/scotland\" isautogenerated=\"true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scotland<\/a>, was carved by Vincent and Roxanne Kindersley, whose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tatler.com\/topic\/cambridge\" isautogenerated=\"true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cambridge<\/a>-based workshop has delivered similar pieces to a number of national monuments, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tatler.com\/topic\/westminster\" isautogenerated=\"true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Westminster<\/a> Abbey and St Paul\u2019s Cathedral.<\/p>\n<p>But it was their design for the National Gallery that piqued King Charles\u2019 interest. After the poignant service, His Majesty spoke to the sculptors, praising their work at the Gallery as \u2018absolutely brilliant\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>St Giles&#8217; Cathedral no doubt holds a special place in King Charles\u2019 heart. After Queen Elizabeth passed away at Balmoral in September 2022, the King joined his three siblings, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tatler.com\/topic\/princess-anne\" isautogenerated=\"true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Princess Anne<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tatler.com\/topic\/Prince-Andrew\" isautogenerated=\"true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prince Andrew<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tatler.com\/topic\/prince-edward\" isautogenerated=\"true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prince Edward<\/a>, to lead the procession following his mother\u2019s coffin to the Cathedral.
