Attending Wimbledon<\/a> each year has become a beloved pastime for the British royal family<\/a> \u2014\u00a0and of course, they get to sit in the best seats in the house.\n<\/p>\n The 2025 tournament kicked off in London on June 30 and, like previous years, fans can expect to see Kate Middleton<\/a> and her peers in the Royal Box<\/a>, the 74-seat suite inside Centre Court that also happens to be one of the most exclusive invitations in town.\n<\/p>\n Despite its name, the Royal Box is not solely reserved for royalty; some of the biggest names in politics and sports may also be seen in the stands.\n<\/p>\n Aligning with the tennis tournaments’ iconic rules and regulations<\/a> \u2014 including the famed “wear white” rule players must follow on and around the court \u2014 spectators sitting in the Royal Box must abide by a slew of guidelines, too.\n<\/p>\n There are\u00a0no exceptions for celebrities, either! Formula 1 star Sir Lewis Hamilton<\/a> was denied entry into the Royal Box during Wimbledon 2023 \u201cdue to an unfortunate misunderstanding<\/a>” of the rules.\n<\/p>\n Here’s everything to know about the Royal Box at Wimbledon, which streams live on the\u00a0Tennis Channel between June 30 and July 13 this year.<\/p>\n What is the Royal Box at Wimbledon? <\/p>\n Prince William, Princess Kate and Prince George in the Royal Box on Centre Court Wimbledon in July 2022. The Royal Box is a reserved suite of seats at Wimbledon, located inside Centre Court at the tennis tournaments held in London. According to the event’s official website<\/a>, the Royal Box has been used for the “entertainment of friends and guests of Wimbledon since 1922.”\n<\/p>\n The suite comprises 74 dark green Lloyd Loom wicker chairs overlooking the court. They are granted to guests ahead of the tournament’s start.\n<\/p>\n “It\u2019s up to the chairman of the All England Club to distribute invites for the two weeks of athletic competition, with suggestions submitted by members of the Championships\u2019 Organising Committee, the Lawn Tennis Association and other sources,” according to Wimbledon’s\u00a0website<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n In 2023, Formula 1 driver George Russell shared a glimpse of the tickets for the Royal Box at\u00a0Wimbledon when he attended the tenth day of the tennis tournament with his girlfriend, Carmen Montero Mundt.\n<\/p>\n Ahead of the event, Russell posted a photo of their passes to sit in the Royal Box on his\u00a0Instagram Stories<\/a>. Therefore, guests invited to the Royal Box must abide by the “protocol” listed on Wimbledon’s official website<\/a>, which means dressing “smart.”\n<\/p>\n Exceptions can’t be made even for the royals themselves \u2014 even Prince George\u00a0wore a suit and tie<\/a> despite a hot day when he attended his first\u00a0Wimbledon tournament<\/a> in 2022!\n<\/p>\n A practical summer accessory is also discouraged, but for a logical reason.\n<\/p>\n “Ladies are asked not to wear hats, as they tend to obscure the vision of those seated behind them,” Wimbledon states. (In the past, both Kate and Meghan Markle<\/a> have broken the rule<\/a> when they appeared at Wimbledon wearing hats to keep cool in the sun!).\n<\/p>\n
