{"id":23490,"date":"2025-04-16T01:28:09","date_gmt":"2025-04-16T01:28:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/23490\/"},"modified":"2025-04-16T01:28:09","modified_gmt":"2025-04-16T01:28:09","slug":"vance-hopeful-of-britain-trade-deal-as-trump-loves-the-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/23490\/","title":{"rendered":"Vance hopeful of Britain trade deal as Trump &#8216;loves the UK&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vice President<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/jd-vance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"> JD Vance<\/a> said there is a \u201cgood chance\u201d the United States could land a trade deal with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/united-kingdom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">United Kingdom<\/a> due to President Donald Trump\u2019s deep \u201clove\u201d for the country.<\/p>\n<p>During his first major interview with a European outlet since taking office as vice president, Vance told <a href=\"https:\/\/unherd.com\/2025\/04\/jd-vance-my-message-to-europe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">UnHerd<\/a> that the Trump administration has been \u201cworking very hard\u201d with U.K. Prime Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/3371537\/starmer-wants-turbocharge-uk-industry-respond-trump-tariffs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Keir Starmer<\/a> to negotiate a trade deal that is \u201cfairer\u201d to the U.S. Vance said the unique \u201creciprocal relationship\u201d between the two countries makes it likely that a \u201cgreat\u201d deal will be reached in response to the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3369019\/trump-tariff-response-countries-reacting-liberation-day-announcement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"> 10% \u201cLiberation Day\u201d tariff <\/a>Trump placed on the U.K. earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president really loves the United Kingdom,\u201d the vice president said in the interview, which was published Tuesday. \u201cHe loved the queen. He admires and loves the king. It is a very important relationship. And he\u2019s a businessman and has a number of important business relationships in [Britain].\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I think it\u2019s much deeper than that,\u201d Vance continued. \u201cThere\u2019s a real cultural affinity. And, of course, fundamentally, America is an Anglo country. I think there\u2019s a good chance that, yes, we\u2019ll come to a great agreement that\u2019s in the best interest of both countries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vance argued that the U.K. has historically fostered a business relationship with the U.S. that is \u201cmuch more reciprocal\u201d than the U.S.\u2019s relationships with other allies, such as Germany. This has incentivized the Trump administration to prioritize building its relationship with the U.K.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the United Kingdom, we have a much more reciprocal relationship than we have with, say, Germany \u2026 While we love the Germans, they are heavily dependent on exporting to the United States but are pretty tough on a lot of American businesses that would like to export into Germany,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Jones, U.K. business and trade minister, praised Vance\u2019s comments on Tuesday, telling<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cly1j4yg872o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"> BBC Breakfast<\/a> that trade negotiations with the U.S. are ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNobody wants tariffs. No one wants a tariff war. We want to secure a deal with the US. We think that would be the best way to secure jobs and growth in our country,\u201d she said, adding that Great Britain is in a \u201cgood position.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During the UnHerd interview, Vance addressed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/economy\/3370616\/four-worst-economic-signs-trump-liberation-day-tariffs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">stresses the tariffs have placed<\/a> on global markets. (AP Photo\/Alex Brandon)<\/p>\n<p>Vance argued that the \u201cjitters\u201d were worth a long-term strategy of securing more balanced trade deals for the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny implementation of a new system is fundamentally going to make financial markets jittery,\u201d he admitted, adding that Trump is still committed to the tariff strategy as \u201ca long-term play.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo plan is, you know, going to be implemented perfectly,\u201d Vance continued. \u201cWe\u2019re very cognizant of the fact that we live in a complicated world where nobody else\u2019s decisions are static. But the fundamental policy is to rebalance global trade, and I think the president has been very clear and persistent on that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/3325575\/liz-truss-warns-vance-right-trouncing-european-leaders-free-speech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">LIZ TRUSS WARNS VANCE IS \u2018RIGHT\u2019 OVER TROUNCING OF EUROPEAN LEADERS ON FREE SPEECH<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Vance also attempted to reassure European allies that the U.S. was still their partner. His comments came after he criticized partners such as Great Britain and Germany for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/3325575\/liz-truss-warns-vance-right-trouncing-european-leaders-free-speech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">strict regulations regarding speech<\/a>\u00a0and for not \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3347495\/jd-vance-european-union-tariffs-us-consumers-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">treating\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3347495\/jd-vance-european-union-tariffs-us-consumers-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">[ing] us like an ally when it comes to economics<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love Europe. I love European people. I\u2019ve said repeatedly that I think that you can\u2019t separate American culture from European culture. We\u2019re very much a product of philosophies, theologies, and, of course, the migration patterns that came out of Europe that launched the United States of America,\u201d Vance said. \u201cWe very much see Europe as our ally.
