JoJo Siwa told Celebrity Big Brother that she was not ‘ready necessarily to be open’ about her gender identity, and while many fans are proud of the star, others think ITV’s choice to air the scene is ‘cruel’<\/p>\n

JoJo Siwa<\/a> shared a very emotional admission on Celebrity Big Brother<\/a> this evening, revealing what she’d been hiding from the other housemates. The star was taken to the Diary Room alongside her TV buddy Chris Hughes<\/a>, and clarified what they’d been speaking about in private – but alongside plenty of praise for the heartfelt moment, some furious fans think ‘disgusting’ ITV<\/a> bosses should have let her keep her privacy.<\/p>\n

JoJo, 21, and Chris, 32, got in trouble earlier on in the day after they were caught exchanging secret messages<\/a>, with the Dance Moms<\/a> alum writing on Chris’ hand while the others were asleep.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt 1:59am in the bedroom, JoJo wrote messages on Chris\u2019 hand in secret. Chris gave JoJo his hand and said, ‘you can write it out’. JoJo then wrote on Chris\u2019 hand and said ‘It makes sense, think about it,'” Big Brother<\/a> reported to the whole house before dolling out punishment to the pair.<\/p>\n

While JoJo assured housemates that they weren’t secretly talking about nominations at the time, she opted to make up a lie about what they were really discussing in code. Later, however, Big Brother called her and Chris in together and asked directly what JoJo has been saying to Chris<\/a> and keeping from others.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s something that I\u2019m not ready necessarily to be open about or upfront about but it has to do with gender and how do I feel,” JoJo revealed.<\/p>\n

The pop star added: “Let\u2019s put it this way. Oh my God, this is a lot. Essentially, you have female, you have male. I\u2019ve met a lot of females and love them but don\u2019t feel like I\u2019m them. Met a lot of males, love them but definitely not them.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve met a lot of people in my life that are non-binary and these beautiful non-binary people are who I feel the most like. It\u2019s not something that I want to say about myself yet but it\u2019s something that is confusing. So, that\u2019s probably why we were talking about it last night.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Big Brother thanked JoJo for her honesty, many fans noticed that JoJo suggested she wasn’t sure she wanted to talk about her gender identity yet and kept the conversation private with Chris for a reason.<\/p>\n

On X, formerly known as Twitter<\/a>, some viewers slammed the ITV for airing the footage, saying that as long as she and Chris weren’t trying to cheat the nominations their real topic of conversation didn’t need to be disclosed.<\/p>\n

“Did NOT have to air that conversation with JoJo. She was pushed to share something that she didn\u2019t seem ready to share. And they\u2019ve broadcasted it. It would have been easier to\u2026 not have broadcasted it,” one person stated. A second agreed: “They should have edited that conversation with JoJo out, it seemed pretty clear she didn\u2019t want that out there yet and she deserves to keep that until she\u2019s ready.”<\/p>\n

“I get that they had to ask the question, but then they didn\u2019t have to air what JoJo was talking about. Seems a bit cruel, especially when she said she\u2019s not ready,” said another.<\/p>\n

“The fact JoJo basically forcefully came out on national television is pretty disgusting. They were not ready to come out,” a fourth viewer agreed, while another raged: “…they just outed her. Awful form.”<\/p>\n

In contrast, many people gushed over JoJo’s openness, with JoJo herself noting to Big Brother and Chris: “It\u2019s important to be honest and I think it\u2019s important to show that it\u2019s ok to not know.”<\/p>\n

One fan wrote: “JoJo\u2019s openness about her gender identity is so inspiring. It\u2019s amazing to see her connect with non binary experiences in the Big Brother\u2019s house. But I hope she gave full consent for this to air.”<\/p>\n

“Jojo talking about gender identity is something I can relate to, and so many other people can too. Very brave to open up about,” another viewer praised.<\/p>\n
