It was his third time visiting the popular Indian restaurant, although it’s unclear why he was in town. He’s not due to perform in Birmingham until next year (April 23, 2026) at Utilita Arena. Maybe he just loves a curry?

“We were delighted to welcome Yungblud to Asha’s Birmingham for the THIRD time, last night!” said an Asha’s spokesperson on Facebook. “It was a joy to serve one of the UK’s most exciting musical talents. And what a pleasure to know how much he enjoys our tasty Indian cuisine, here in the heart of Birmingham! Last year (May 6, 2024), Jack Black was also spotted on Newhall Street visiting Asha’s, and a year before that (June 12, 2023), Pink also ate at the Michelin Guide-approved Indian. At her show at Villa Park, she even shouted to thousands of fans, “We’re having so much fun. I had the best Indian food of my life last night!”

Probably the biggest star to visit still is Tom Cruise, who, while taking a break from filming Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, stepped into the Indian and ordered TWO tikkas, washing them down with legendary Birmingham water, of course. Plenty more celebrities have also passed through, including John Malkovich, Amir Khan and The Rolling Stones.

Why do so many celebrities visit Asha’s? Credit: Asha’s

Well, firstly, there’s the restaurant itself, which is a great representation of Birmingham and its love of curry. The MICHELIN Guide describes it as “a stylish, passionately run Indian restaurant with exotic décor.” Serving flavours from the entirety of the Indian subcontinent, Asha’s offers authentic dishes from Chandni Chowk Ka Kheema to Muscat Gosht, Lamb Saffron Biryani to Tandoori Kebabs.

But another reason for its draw might be connected to its owner and namesake, Asha Bhosle. As a famous playback singer, Bollywood actress and television personality, she is very much a celebrity in her own right back home in India. So, we’d like to hazard a guess that she might know a thing or two about accommodating the celebrity lifestyle.

Particularly, Asha’s features exclusive dining rooms and booths where you can have private dinners. Privacy is key when you’re a celebrity, and the likes of Ed Sheeran, Jaykae, The Rolling Stones, Cliff Richard and Steven Gerrard all took advantage of this. But we should mention that Tom Cruise chose to sit in the middle of the restaurant among us normals when he dined!

🌐 To learn more about Asha’s head here.

📍 Asha’s, 12-22 Newhall St, Birmingham B3 3AS

Credit: Asha’s Yungblud, the English pop-rock singer/songwriter, was spotted in Asha’s last night (Wednesday, July 2).
