Wrexham could strengthen their attack by signing Josh Windass, now he\u2019s looking to leave Sheffield Wednesday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wrexham have signed two new players<\/a>\u00a0already this summer, most recently securing Danny Ward on a free transfer before paying \u00a3700,000 to Plymouth Argyle for Ryan Hardie.<\/p>\n

More arrivals are expected at the Racecourse Ground before the transfer window slams shut on September 1.<\/p>\n

Barry Bannan has been linked to Wrexham<\/a> a fair bit in the last few weeks, now that he\u2019s officially out of contract with Sheffield Wednesday.<\/p>\n

But reports this week are now claiming Wrexham want to sign Josh Windass<\/a> from the Owls, along with Rangers.<\/p>\n

Windass remains under contract for another year, but due to Wednesday\u2019s ongoing financial problems, FIFA rules mean players can terminate their contracts<\/a> if they go unpaid for two months in a row, meaning Wrexham<\/a> could land him for free.<\/p>\n

Now, we have taken a look at potential winners and losers if Windass swaps Yorkshire for North Wales.<\/p>\n

Since taking over in 2021, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have made clear their desire to take Wrexham to the Premier League.<\/p>\n

Three promotions in a row is historic, but trying to get out of the Championship will be the club\u2019s toughest task yet under the new ownership.<\/p>\n

If they are to do so, more experienced players will still need to be targeted, and Windass is a fantastic example of the type of deal Wrexham need to be eyeing.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s played 173 games in the Championship and would be an instant starter if he moves to the Racecourse.<\/p>\n

Wrexham reaching the Premier League will be tough, but signings like Windass are just what they need.<\/p>\n

One problem Wrexham had across 2024\/25 was a lack of attacking midfield options.<\/p>\n

Tom Lawrence is an option<\/a> and is now available as a free agent after leaving Rangers at the end of June.<\/p>\n

Windass, meanwhile, is accomplished in the number 10 role and would add some much-needed firepower while rivalling Elliot Lee.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s scored 40 and assisted 17 in the Championship, including netting an impressive 13 goals in the second tier last term.<\/p>\n

Sheffield Wednesday have been hit with a three-window transfer ban after their failure to pay players.<\/p>\n

It means the Owls can\u2019t make any new signings until the 2027 January transfer window.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s obviously going to impact the club\u2019s chances of remaining in the Championship massively and losing a player as key as Windass would be a major blow.<\/p>\n

Harry Ashfield<\/p>\n

Harry Ashfield has signed a new Wrexham contract this year after some impressive performances following his breakthrough into the first team.<\/p>\n

However, given Ashfield is a fairly attacking player who has primarily played up front or in midfield, he\u2019d likely be competing with Windass for a starting place.<\/p>\n

A loan move for the youngster this summer may be best anyway, but it would make even more sense if Windass joins.<\/p>\n

Valencia<\/p>\n

Reports have already emerged this summer that Valencia were interested in Windass.<\/p>\n

The player spoke out about those links and how the Spanish side\u2019s current manager, Carlos Corberan, tried to sign him when he was at West Brom last year.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cI don\u2019t know anything about that to be honest. That\u2019ll be because of Carlos [Corberan]. I was close to going to West Brom last summer because I was a free transfer, and I was close to going to West Brom and ended up staying at Sheffield Wednesday.\u201d<\/p>\n
