In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/culture\/605679\/elden-ring-nightreign-cord-end-secret-door-twigs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elden Ring Nightreign<\/a>, Sentient Pest is a cool idea for a boss fight \u2014 it\u2019s a parasitic moth that controls a bulky scorpion \u2014 but it\u2019s definitely one of the easiest encounters. That is, until Nightreign\u2019s latest weekly update, which introduces <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/news\/607966\/elden-ring-nightreign-update-everdark-sovereign\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a tougher \u201cEverdark Sovereign\u201d version<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/elden-ring-nightreign-guides\/603005\/best-nightlords-order-boss-list-all\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nightlord<\/a>. Now, what was easily one of Nightreign\u2019s least intimidating baddies has been hulked up and turned into the game\u2019s most memorable encounter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _11x6rb9i ku7vx11 ku7vx10 t0irya1\">In some ways, the base game did Gnoster dirty. When the snowy insect shows up as a random encounter during an expedition, you\u2019ll be wailing away at him, and he will just \u2026 stand there. Sure, you have to find him first \u2014 and the swarm that he sends out, which can eat multiple levels off your character, is probably Nightreign\u2019s most annoying mechanic. But since the so-called Wisdom of the Night drops a power that grants your character an astounding number of runes, knowledgeable players will straight up cheer when the pest shows up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _11x6rb9i ku7vx11 ku7vx10 t0irya1\">The full Sentient Pest boss fight isn\u2019t all that much better. For one, he\u2019s weak to fire \u2014 the most common elemental affinity \u2014 and if you focus entirely on the flying mastermind, the whole thing is over quickly. However, things are much different on the Everdark version.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _11x6rb9i ku7vx11 ku7vx10 t0irya1\">[<strong>Warning:<\/strong> The rest of this article contains<strong> spoilers<\/strong> for the Everdark Sentient Pest boss fight in Elden Ring Nightreign]<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _11x6rb9i ku7vx11 ku7vx10 t0irya1\">The first portion of the Everdark Sovereign Sentient Pest fight goes down the same way. When I initially tried it, my team quickly deleted the boss\u2019s health. In total hubris and ignorance, I thought I was done, and I started celebrating, only to notice the boss\u2019s body wasn\u2019t evaporating into dust. Uh, what?<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _11x6rb9i ku7vx11 ku7vx10 t0irya1\">That\u2019s when the game threw in a third guy, an aurora-like spirit that will burst from the body of the moth. Another health bar then shows up, introducing the real puppet master behind it all: Animus, Ascendant Light. Animus will then go ahead and revive both the insect and the scorpion, and all three will proceed to hunt your team down.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _11x6rb9i ku7vx11 ku7vx10 t0irya1\">If that weren\u2019t enough, once you get to this part of the fight, you can\u2019t just kill the boss normally. If you defeat either animated husk, Animus can revive them again. Their health bars will only be a fourth of the full gauge, but it\u2019s moot when they can be brought to life at will. Though I haven\u2019t beaten it yet, you\u2019re supposed to use the brief period where the bodies are dead to attack Animus, as the spectral assailant pauses to power them up again. You can try and hit Animus before then, but it quickly possesses the scorpion. Both the scorpion and the moth also come back with a souped-up moveset. All three are still weak to fire, though!<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _11x6rb9i ku7vx11 ku7vx10 t0irya1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Nightreign\/comments\/1lqce2r\/everdark_sovereign_sentien_pest_megathread\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Based on conversations I\u2019ve seen online<\/a>, players still consider this fight easy; some are even arguing that the new version of the fight is simpler than its initial iteration. For my money, though, it\u2019s really just that over a month after the game\u2019s release, players have gotten much better at the game. The current Evergaol meta, which is only possible with a Relic from the Everdark update, allows your Nightfarers to become more powerful with every jail you beat \u2014 and it has a compounding effect. There\u2019s the surprise factor, but also a bit of a spectacle as Animus flies around, hitting you with orbital lasers as a grandiose soundtrack booms in the background. \u201cFucking awesome,\u201d reads one post on Reddit about the Everdark skirmish. \u201cIncredible fight,\u201d declares another.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _11x6rb9i ku7vx11 ku7vx10 t0irya1\">Should you defeat the new Nightlord, you\u2019ll unlock a Relic that may be of particular interest to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/culture\/606986\/elden-ring-nightreign-revenant-la-creatura-memes-fan-art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Revenant<\/a> and Recluse mains: it increases your maximum FP, restores FP on successive attacks, and raises FP permanently for every Sorcerer\u2019s Rise you release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _11x6rb9i ku7vx11 ku7vx10 t0irya1\">As a small bonus, another thing <a href=\"https:\/\/en.bandainamcoent.eu\/elden-ring\/news\/elden-ring-nightreign-patch-notes-version-1014\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the new update<\/a> brings to the table is that the game will now tell you what type of weapon something is when you look at it, so you can stop picking up the wrong thing all the time.
