{"id":236649,"date":"2025-07-04T05:50:13","date_gmt":"2025-07-04T05:50:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/236649\/"},"modified":"2025-07-04T05:50:13","modified_gmt":"2025-07-04T05:50:13","slug":"birmingham-breeze-block-burglar-who-struggles-outside-jail-confesses-to-latest-break-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/236649\/","title":{"rendered":"Birmingham &#8216;breeze block burglar&#8217; who struggles outside jail confesses to latest break-in"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Birmingham burglar is at risk of becoming &#8216;institutionalised&#8217; after confessing to his latest break-in.<\/p>\n<p>Matthew Boreland appeared at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/birmingham-crown-court\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Birmingham Crown Court;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Birmingham Crown Court<\/a> today (Thursday, July 3), where he admitted charges of burglary and theft.<\/p>\n<p>The offences involved breaking into a home in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/selly-oak\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Selly Park;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Selly Park<\/a> on April 14 this year and stealing a bag, alcohol, papers and two sets of keys.<\/p>\n<p><b>READ MORE: <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.news.yahoo.com\/vile-birmingham-thug-booted-dog-043000793.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Vile thug who booted dog in the air and strangled his own mother jailed;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vile thug who booted dog in the air and strangled his own mother jailed<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The theft charge specifically related to taking a Toyota Yaris.<\/p>\n<p>His latest burglary conviction makes him a &#8216;third strike&#8217; offender, which will likely result in him receiving a mandatory minimum sentence of three years unless it can be argued there are &#8216;exceptional circumstances&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Birmingham;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Birmingham<\/a>Live previously reported on Boreland in 2023 after he smashed his way into a home in Henley-in-Arden using a breeze block in order to steal an Audi.<\/p>\n<p>The now 40-year-old from Hillmeads Road, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/kings-norton-and-brandwood\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Kings Norton;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Kings Norton<\/a>, appeared at court via a video link from HMP Hewell this morning.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Turner, defending, applied for sentencing to be adjourned for a pre-sentence report and psychiatric report.<\/p>\n<p>She said: &#8220;The underlying issue is that he was suffering from an alcohol addiction at the time. He was self-medicating.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He struggles when released from prison. There is a concern as to an element of institutionalisation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The barrister added that pyschiatric and pre-sentence reports will help assess his motivations and culpability as well as &#8216;assist in setting him up for the future&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Sentencing was adjourned until September 15.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A Birmingham burglar is at risk of becoming &#8216;institutionalised&#8217; after confessing to his latest break-in.
