On Wednesday, 10 ramblers tackled Bamford Edge and Stanage Edge near Hayfield in Derbyshire, being rewarded with magnificent views. A highlight of this 11 mile walk was a visit to Robin Hood’s Cave, little-known and tricky to find, but rewarding to those who succeed.

On Sunday we were more local for a six mile walk from Horwich. The nine walkers were treated to some interesting animal sculptures at a café near the start, and then ascended gradually to Rivington Pike and the splendid tower thereon.

The weekend weather tempted many people up to the pike, including families with children and dogs. Those who succeeded in the climb were clearly very proud of themselves – including our group!

LOOKING LOVELY: Fishing lodge, Horwich

Coming up, on Sunday, July 6 we offer a six mile walk from Colne that will take in the lovely conservation village of Wycoller, as well as the Atom panopticon that sits on the hill above. This walk will finish between 1.30pm and 2pm, leaving plenty of time for family matters, so we hope you will join us.

Then on Wednesday, July 9 we have a nine mile walk from Grassington, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Any walk here is delightful, and this one should be no exception, visiting Conistone and the Linton Falls on the River Wharfe.

Finally, on Friday, July 11 we have a rather tough 13 mile walk from Dufton, Cumbria. The route is quite spectacular, with the highlight being High Cup Nick, a dramatic geological formation overlooking a stunning glaciated U shaped valley.

Our walks are free, but after three walks with us we ask you to join The Ramblers, at a cost of only £3.58 per month.
