He told the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/article\/346ed83c-7753-42f3-a759-795daba18fdb?shareToken=c90b9c96262b58c7f5d683d56b1903af\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Times<\/a>\u00a0that a \u201clarge chunk\u201d of these tax rises would not have been required had the UK remained in the EU or even \u201cchosen a softer form of Brexit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And it doesn\u2019t seem like the pain is over yet, with the OBR saying it would take 15 years for the full impact of Brexit to be felt, predicting a 15% drop in trade volumes compared to if the UK had stayed in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Springford said predictions of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelondoneconomic.com\/tag\/brexit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brexit\u2019s\u00a0<\/a>impact on the UK economy had \u201cbeen borne out\u201d and that it was \u201cundeniable\u201d how Brexit had hurt the UK\u2019s economic growth prospects.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"John Springford, an associate fellow at the Centre for European Reform, has now confirmed this was correct.
