{"id":237555,"date":"2025-07-04T13:56:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-04T13:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/237555\/"},"modified":"2025-07-04T13:56:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-04T13:56:09","slug":"bernard-hopkins-says-there-is-only-one-fighter-in-history-greater-than-muhammad-ali","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/237555\/","title":{"rendered":"Bernard Hopkins Says There Is Only One Fighter In History Greater Than Muhammad Ali"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the eyes of many, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.secondsout.com\/topic\/muhammad-ali\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Muhammad Ali<\/a> is the greatest fighter to have ever graced the sport, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.secondsout.com\/topic\/bernard-hopkins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bernard Hopkins<\/a> puts one man above him.<\/p>\n<p>The heavyweight icon exploded onto the scene during the early sixties, making his professional debut just a couple of months after he walked away from the 1960 Olympic Games in Barcelona with a Gold Medal.<\/p>\n<p>It took him four years to challenge for the world heavyweight championship for the first time, as he defeated Sonny Liston via sixth round stoppage to capture world honours in an early career defining victory for \u2018The Greatest\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Ali would go on to defeat a number of other legendary heavyweights in the years that followed, including the likes of Earnie Shavers, Ken Norton and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.olympics.com\/en\/news\/boxing-legend-george-foreman-dies-aged-76\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">George Foreman<\/a>, beating the latter in the \u2018Rumble In The Jungle\u2019 in October of 1974.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the considerable success of the late, great heavyweight hero, retired two-weight world champion Hopkins believes there is one fighter in particular that was even better than Ali.<\/p>\n<p>Hopkins made no mistake in naming Sugar Ray Robinson as the greatest fighter of all time, but did acknowledge that Ali deserves to be ranked just behind the six-time world champion<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe best fighter ever is Sugar Ray Robinson.
