{"id":237834,"date":"2025-07-04T16:23:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-04T16:23:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/237834\/"},"modified":"2025-07-04T16:23:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-04T16:23:11","slug":"london-braces-for-third-30c-scorcher-after-brief-weekend-cool-down","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/237834\/","title":{"rendered":"London braces for third 30C scorcher after brief weekend cool-down"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/london\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:London;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">London<\/a> could see its third <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/heatwave\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:heatwave;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">heatwave<\/a> of the year as temperatures are expected to reach 29C in the capital next week.<\/p>\n<p>Londoners rejoiced earlier this week as summer showers finally brought much-needed relief from the scorching <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/weather\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:weather;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">weather<\/a> following the <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.news.yahoo.com\/london-faces-sweltering-34c-tropical-092133683.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:hottest day of the year on Tuesday;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hottest day of the year on Tuesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, jubilations will be short-lived as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/met-office\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Met Office;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Met Office<\/a> is now reporting temperatures of 27C on Wednesday and 29C on Thursday. Londoners could also be in for another \u201ctropical night\u201d, with temperatures of around 24C expected through the night next week.<\/p>\n<p>Forecasters at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/met-office\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Met Office;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Met Office<\/a> said it is still to early to call it a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/heatwave\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:heatwave;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">heatwave<\/a>, which is triggered when a location records at least three consecutive days where the daily maximum temperature meets or exceeds 28C.<\/p>\n<p>The forecaster added: \u201cThere is scope for some hot conditions to return to the east and southeast of the UK during the second half of the week and into the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether or not this would reach heatwave thresholds is still to be determined.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Temperatures of around 34.7C were recorded at St James\u2019s Park in central <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/london\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:London;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">London<\/a> earlier this week, with this year also having been recorded as the hottest start to Wimbledon on record. One spectator at the championships collapsed during Carlos Alcaraz\u2019s first-round victory.<\/p>\n<p>Provisional Met Office figures have also shown that England had its warmest June on record last month, with the UK Health Security Agency having issued amber heat health alerts for much of the country until Wednesday this week.<\/p>\n<p>The London Fire Brigade has also had to respond to 14 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/wildfires\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:wildfires;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">wildfires<\/a> in the city and callouts to smaller fires involving grass and trees in outdoor spaces. The force also <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.news.yahoo.com\/severe-wildfires-alert-london-heatwave-112043634.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:issued an alert last week;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">issued an alert last week<\/a> highlighting the risk of such high temperatures and low rainfall, advising members of the public to refrain from using disposable barbeques in public parks and from having bonfires.<\/p>\n<p>A study by the Met Office revealed that the chance of the UK exceeding 40C is now twenty times more likely than it was in the 1960s.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/uk.news.yahoo.com\/paris-braces-40c-top-eiffel-095527561.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Elsewhere in Europe;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elsewhere in Europe<\/a>, countries like France and Spain have also been gripped by a heatwave which has seen temperatures soar over 45C. In Paris, the top of the Eiffel Tower was closed earlier this week, with the city also warning of possible <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/wildfires\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:wildfires;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">wildfires<\/a>.
