{"id":238231,"date":"2025-07-04T19:46:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-04T19:46:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/238231\/"},"modified":"2025-07-04T19:46:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-04T19:46:09","slug":"important-important-travel-information-for-people-visiting-cardiff-and-south-wales-this-weekend-with-a-number-of-road-closures-and-changes-to-train-timetables","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/238231\/","title":{"rendered":"IMPORTANT | Important travel information for people visiting Cardiff and South Wales this weekend with a number of road closures and changes to train timetables"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A series of concerts will be held at Principality Stadium this summer, from June 19th\u00a0through to August 1st.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure that all those attending the concerts can get into and out of the stadium safely, roads around the Principality Stadium will close at the following times for the remaining concerts:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oasis \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0July 4th\u00a0and July 5th\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<strong>12 noon until midnight<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Stereophonics\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 July 11th\u00a0&amp; 12th\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<strong>3pm until midnight<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kendrick Lamar<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 July 19th\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<strong>3pm until midnight<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Catfish and the Bottlemen<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 August 1st\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<strong>3pm until midnight<\/strong><strong\/><\/p>\n<p>The gates to the stadium will open at 5pm for these concerts.<\/p>\n<p>The M4 motorway is expected to be very busy for these concerts \u2013 so please plan ahead \u2013 and avoid the congestion in Cardiff by using the park &amp; ride at the car park by the Vindico Arena on International Drive in the Sports Village \u2013\u00a0CF11 0JS.<\/p>\n<p>For up to date traffic information on the motorway and trunk roads go to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/traffic.wales\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Traffic Wales website<\/a>, or @TrafficWalesS on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/trafficwaless\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Twitter<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/TrafficWalesS\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Facebook.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Anyone attending these concerts are strongly advised to plan their journey in advance and get into Cardiff early. \u00a0Please pay attention to the prohibited items listed at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/principalitystadium.wales\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">principalitystadium.wales<\/a>,\u00a0in particular the bag policy (no large bags permitted) before travelling into the city.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Road closures<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From 7am, Scott Road and Park Street will be closed because of the need to prepare Gate 5 and protect queuing fans.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Apart from the Oasis concerts, when the roads will close at 12 noon, the following roads will be closed as part of the full city centre road closure which will take place at 3pm until midnight.<\/a><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Kingsway from its junction with North Road to its junction with Duke Street.<\/li>\n<li>Cowbridge Road East from its junction with Cathedral Road to its junction with Westgate Street.<\/li>\n<li>Tudor Street from its junction with Clare Road to its junction with Wood Street (access for residents and traders will be permitted via Fitzhammon Embankment).<\/li>\n<li>Plantagenet Street and Beauchamp Street from their junctions with Despenser Place to their junctions with Tudor Street (access for residents and traders will be permitted).<\/li>\n<li>The following roads will be closed in their entirety: Duke Street, Castle St, High Street, St Mary Street, Caroline Street, Wood Street, Central Square, Westgate Street, Quay Street, Guildhall Place, Golate, Park Street, Havelock Street and Scott Road.<\/li>\n<li>Station Terrace and Guildford Street from the junction with Newport Road to the junction with Churchill Way will be access for buses only during the times of the road closures. This is to ensure that there is reliable access for buses to the satellite points in Churchill Way.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Additionally, Penarth Road will be closed 30 minutes before the concerts finish and for up to an hour after they finish, on safety grounds \u2013 for train passengers arriving and departing from the train station.<\/p>\n<p>Additions:\u00a0<br \/>Civic Centre:\u00a0Access to part of the Civic Centre will be controlled throughout the day, with access allowed only for event parking, limited commuter parking, loading and access to private car parks.<\/p>\n<p>Roads affected include King Edward VII Avenue, Museum Avenue, City Hall Road, College Road and Gorsedd Gardens Road.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Trains<\/strong><\/a><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"\/><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To help manage the expected increase in passenger numbers, Transport for Wales (TfW) and Great Western Railway (GWR) will operate additional and strengthened services (trains with more carriages than usual) to get customers to and from the events smoothly.<\/p>\n<p>However, some engineering works may impact TfW and GWR services and passengers are urged to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journey \u2013\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.journeycheck.com\/tfwrail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.journeycheck.com\/tfwrail\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>From Monday 9 until Friday June 20th, and on Sunday June 29th, Network Rail are replacing track in the Filton and Stoke Gifford areas, as well as completing other work between Pilning and Severn Beach.<\/p>\n<p>This means that there are no direct trains between Bristol and South Wales during these dates, including for the Chris Brown Concert on Thursday June 19th.\u00a0Customers travelling between Bristol and South Wales should change at Gloucester or Cheltenham Spa, where trains will still run to and from South Wales.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>GWR will operate an extra service from Cardiff to Bristol Temple Meads (via Gloucester) after the concert, supported by rail replacement buses.<\/p>\n<p>The works are planned to be completed before the Lana Del Ray gig on Monday June 23rd, where GWR will operate two additional services towards Bristol Temple Meads after the gig, as well as an extra train to Newport, and additional services to Swansea.<\/p>\n<p>The start of Oasis\u2019s sell-out tour will see GWR operate six extra trains to get people home again, providing almost 4,000 additional seats, for each of the two nights.<\/p>\n<p>For all events, those looking to travel by train are warned to check the time of their last train home, and to allow plenty of time \u2013\u00a0A queuing system will begin from 10pm and the queuing for mainline rail services will be on Central Square with the Valley queues at the rear of the station.<\/p>\n<p>For more information visit \u2013\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tfw.wales\/places\/events\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/tfw.wales\/places\/events<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Please also note important changes to station operations on event days:<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Cardiff Bus Interchange will close at 12 noon for the Oasis concerts and at 3pm for the remaining concerts<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Cardiff Queen Street Station will close at 10pm, unless customers have accessible requirements or are travelling to Cardiff Bay.<\/p>\n<p>Revenue Protection Inspectors will conduct ticket checks both before and after the events.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Park &amp; Ride facilities<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The event park &amp; ride facilities will be using the car park by Vindico Arena on International Drive in the Sports Village, Cardiff Bay \u2013\u00a0CF11 0JS.<\/p>\n<p>The drop of point in the city centre is on Tresillian Way.<\/p>\n<p>Staff will be on site at 9am, but the first bus into the city centre will leave at 11am. The last bus back from the city centre will be at 12 midnight with the site closing soon after.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The cost is \u00a315. Cash only.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Civic Centre Event Day Parking\u00a0<\/strong><strong>(Cars and Coaches)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Getting there: Exit Junction 32 of the M4, head south on the A470 towards the city centre and follow signage to the civic centre.<\/p>\n<p>Cost: \u00a320 payable on the day for cars and \u00a330 for coaches \u2013 card payments are also now available.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Parking time: The car park will open at 8am and closes at 12 Midnight.\u00a0<strong\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Event Day Parking at Sophia Gardens<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sophia Gardens\u00a0(cars)<\/p>\n<p>(Approximately, 0.5 mile walk to the Principality Stadium, Gate 2).<\/p>\n<p>Sophia Gardens Event Day Parking<\/p>\n<p>Getting there: Exit junction 32 off the M4<\/p>\n<p>Cost: \u00a320 for cars and \u00a330 for coaches \u2013 card payments are now available.<\/p>\n<p>Parking time: Car park opens at 8.00am and closes at 12 midnight.<\/p>\n<p>Please note:\u00a0Sophia Gardens car park will be staffed until 7.00pm all vehicles are left on site at the owner\u2019s risk. Cardiff Council will not be held responsible for any theft or damage to motor vehicles or personal possessions. This is a distance that can be comfortably cycled in 20 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>We also know that 28% of Cardiff residents who currently do not cycle would like to do so.<\/p>\n<p>When the roads are congested this makes cycling an even more attractive option as travel by bicycle would be quicker than a car during rush hours or during big events.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shopping Parking<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>City centre car parks are also available: North Road Car Parks, St David\u2019s Shopping Centre, John Lewis, Capitol Shopping Centre, and NCP (Adam Street, Dumfries Place and Greyfriars Road.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Disabled parking<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Disabled drivers are advised to use Sophia Gardens. Disabled parking is also available at various private car parks.<\/p>\n<p>Please check individual websites for availability.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Taxis<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">For the Oasis concerts, St Mary Street taxi rank (outside the former House of Fraser building) will close at 12 noon.
