{"id":238265,"date":"2025-07-04T20:04:19","date_gmt":"2025-07-04T20:04:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/238265\/"},"modified":"2025-07-04T20:04:19","modified_gmt":"2025-07-04T20:04:19","slug":"thomas-rew-england-under-19s-captain-signs-somerset-contract","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/238265\/","title":{"rendered":"Thomas Rew: England Under-19s captain signs Somerset contract"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">England Under-19s captain Thomas Rew has signed his first professional contract with Somerset.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 17-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/cricket\/articles\/cn9yyv9y57ro\" class=\"ssrcss-k8mrr8-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">scored 131 from 89 balls <\/a>against India Under-19s earlier this week and put on 123 in 128 balls with Rocky Flintoff, the son of England legend Andrew.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Rew, who made his debut for the county in the T20 Blast,  has signed a deal until October 2027, which will see him continue his education this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><a href=\"https:\/\/somersetcountycc.co.uk\/news\/first-xi\/rookie-contract-for-thomas\/\" class=\"ssrcss-k8mrr8-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">He said, external<\/a>: &#8220;I&#8217;m delighted to be signing this contract with Somerset. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I&#8217;ve worked hard to achieve this goal over the last few years and I&#8217;m very grateful for all the work that Somerset&#8217;s age group and academy coaches have put into my game since l joined the pathway at Under-10s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I look forward to training with the squad and coaches over the winter and then I aim to work hard to earn a first-team place and contribute as much as possible in all three formats.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Rew&#8217;s older brother James is a regular for Somerset and has already scored 10 first-class hundreds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"England Under-19s captain Thomas Rew has signed his first professional contract with Somerset.
