{"id":238357,"date":"2025-07-04T20:52:12","date_gmt":"2025-07-04T20:52:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/238357\/"},"modified":"2025-07-04T20:52:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-04T20:52:12","slug":"elo-goodbye-birmingham-icon-jeff-lynne-prepares-for-farewell-appearance-in-his-home-city-here-is-all-you-need-to-know","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/238357\/","title":{"rendered":"ELO Goodbye: Birmingham icon Jeff Lynne prepares for farewell appearance in his home city &#8211; here is all you need to know"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Progressive pop\/rock band the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) will play one final home town show on Saturday (July 5) at the Utilita Arena Birmingham, part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jefflynneselo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jeff Lynne&#8217;s ELO<\/a> farewell tour, which ends on July 13 at Hyde Park, London.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/plus.expressandstar.com\/entertainment\/2025\/07\/04\/black-sabbath-back-to-the-beginning-all-you-need-to-know-about-this-weekends-heavy-metal-homecoming-in-birmingham\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Black Sabbath&#8217;s &#8216;Back to the Beginning&#8217;<\/a> show the gigs are part of a busy month for the second city, with other major events including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressandstar.com\/sport\/2025\/06\/28\/matt-maher-optimism-abounds-after-england-make-the-extraordinary-look-ordinary-again\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">England Men&#8217;s test match vs India<\/a> (July 2-6); Stevie Wonder\u2019s Love, Light &amp; Song concert on July 7; the Birmingham Cocktail Weekend (July 10-13); England Women\u2019s IT20 cricket fixture against India (July 12); Mostly Jazz Funk &amp; Soul Festival (July 11-13); Birmingham Jazz &amp; Blues Festival (July 18-27); and Sandwell Mela (July 19-20).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Where is the event taking place and when?<\/p>\n<p>Jeff Lynne&#8217;s ELO will be playing at the Utilita Arena Birmingham (B1 2AA), with the show kicking off at 8pm on Saturday (July 5).<\/p>\n<p>Tickets for the show have sold out on Ticketmaster, with limited resale tickets available.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/15e12ec9-a59c-4da4-8731-4126b5725ee4.jpg\"   alt=\"Badminton fans will be able to take in the competition at the Utilita Arena\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"w-full max-w-none\"\/>The Utilita ArenaWho is performing?<\/p>\n<p>ELO formed in 1970 and shot to fame with iconic songs such as Mr. Blue Sky, Don&#8217;t Bring Me Down and Last Train To London.<\/p>\n<p>So far on their tour the Brummie band have been joined by special guests including The Doobie Brothers, Steve Winwood and Dhani Harrison, with the latter joining them in Birmingham this weekend.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/3c01a5f1-4908-4baa-97e6-e0e32cc1acff.jpg\"   alt=\"Jeff Lynne of ELO\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"w-full max-w-none\"\/>Jeff Lynne of ELOWhat does this mean for Birmingham?<\/p>\n<p>Hotel occupancy in Birmingham city centre is anticipated to surge close to 90 per cent, significantly higher when compared with the first Saturday in July 2024 (52 per cent).<\/p>\n<p>Figures from STR also suggest that Birmingham\u2019s hoteliers will enjoy increased occupancy levels for the first three weeks in July, in contrast to 12 months earlier.<\/p>\n<p>Councillor John Cotton, leader of Birmingham City Council, said: \u201cThe eyes of the world will be on Birmingham for an extraordinary, unrivalled few days of music, sport and foodie events, delivering real-time economic benefits to our local <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressandstar.com\/news\/business\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">businesses and communities.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is always such a special atmosphere in the city on major event days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe look forward to bringing people together and providing the backdrop for a vibrant celebration of Birmingham\u2019s culture and heritage, creating more special experiences and memories for our visitors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jen Mitchell, managing director of Utilita Arena Birmingham and bp pulse LIVE, said:<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cWelcoming thousands of fans to the city is what we do best \u2013 but hosting Brummie legends ELO makes this weekend particularly special.
