Ukraine urgently needs air defense resources,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>During the call with Trump, Putin insisted that Russia would not back down from its original goals in the war, a <a href=\"https:\/\/tass.ru\/politika\/24425513\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kremlin aide said<\/a>, including addressing its \u201croot causes\u201d \u2014 a phrase Russia uses to argue that Ukraine posed security threats that justified its invasion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very disappointed with the conversation I had today with President Putin, because I don\u2019t think he\u2019s there, and I\u2019m very disappointed,\u201d Trump said. \u201cI\u2019m just saying I don\u2019t think he\u2019s looking to stop, and that\u2019s too bad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since the start of the year, Russia has intensified its aerial attacks, launching multiple record-setting barrages in recent weeks. In June alone, Moscow <a href=\"https:\/\/kyivindependent.com\/russia-launches-record-5-402-drones-against-ukraine-in-june\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">launched 5,337 Iranian-designed Shahed drones<\/a> \u2014 by far the highest monthly total since its full-scale invasion started in February 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Pentagon halted shipments of promised air defense missiles to Ukraine due to worries that U.S. weapons stockpiles have fallen too low, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2025\/07\/01\/pentagon-munitions-ukraine-halt-00436048\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">POLITICO reported Tuesday<\/a>.
