Cameron Norrie wants to carry on winning on Court 1 after crediting the crowd for cheering him back into the fourth round. The last British man standing held off his fellow southpaw Mattia Bellucci to triumph 7-6 6-4 on his favourite court.<\/p>\n
But the streaky Italian world No.73 produced a string of flashing winners before the British No.3 ground him down for his eighth win out of nine on Court 1.<\/p>\n
The 2022 Wimbledon<\/a> semi-finalist thanked the fans in his courtside interview and said: “You guys were amazing today. At every big moment, you got loud. It was amazing. When I saw the schedule, I was happy. Hopefully I can play my next match here. Hopefully I can play all my matches here.\u201d<\/p>\n The world No.61 faces Chilean qualifier Nicholas Jarry in the last 16 on Sunday.<\/p>\n On his run to the last four in 2022, Norrie won his fourth round (Tommy Paul) and his quarter-final (David Goffin) on Court 1 before losing to Novak Djokovic<\/a> on Centre Court.<\/p>\n And Norrie, whose only defeat there came to Chris Eubanks in 2023, said: \u201cI have a good record on that court. I really like it. I feel like I can move really well on it.<\/p>\n \u201cI think my favorite part is obviously the atmosphere and the energy and the people really get behind me on that court. I quite like being very close to your team. They’re right there in the corner. You can pull energy from them. They’re getting fired up. I quite like that.<\/p>\n \u201cI love Centre Court, too. If I’m playing my next match on Centre Court, that’s great. I feel there’s the tendency to be a little bit more respectful on that Centre Court in terms of energy and crowd noise and everything. I felt like today on Court 1, there was a few moments, a few difficult moments for me that the crowd got really fired up.<\/p>\n \u201cIt’s Friday afternoon. They’re there to watch tennis. They’re there to enjoy. I wanted to try to give them something to cheer about. I think the people quite like it when you look at them and get fired up. They feel like they’ve played a part in the win.<\/p>\n \u201cI think it’s important to use the crowd to your advantage. I was just pulling from random people in the crowd today, getting fired up with them. You can see they’re loving it. I’ve seen Andy Murray<\/a> do that a lot in his matches.
