Yes, we\u2019re talking about \u2018hidden gems\u2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s arguably the most overused phrase in travel writing,\u00a0but the truth is that Europe is\u00a0full of drop-dead gorgeous spots that haven\u2019t (yet) gone viral on TikTok or been blighted by overtourism.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recommended: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/europe\/travel\/most-underrated-travel-destinations-europe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The 20 underrated European destinations to visit in summer 2025<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Handily, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hometogo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">HomeToGo<\/a> has designed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hometogo.com\/europe\/#hidden-gem-index\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">European Hidden Gem Index<\/a> based on data on search trends and holiday home pricing, as well as the quality of the views, the food, and the weather.\u00a0After crunching all that data, they produced\u00a0a roundup of the 10\u00a0with the highest overall score.<\/p>\n<p>Topping their list is <strong>Tomar<\/strong>, a lovely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/portugal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Portuguese<\/a> city in the Ribatejo province, which was founded way back in 1160 and has the historical sights and old-fashioned charm to prove it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tomar gained a gastronomy score of 8.77, an accommodation cost score of 9.13 (based on the median nightly price per person for a holiday home) and and an under-the-radar score of 9.43, which all contributed to its solid 61.64 total overall.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In second place was <strong>Brisighella<\/strong> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/italy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy<\/a>, scoring 59.12 overall, and in third it was Nafplio in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/greece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Greece<\/a> closely behind with 57.82.
