Former Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios almost didn’t make it into the grounds at SW19 on Friday…<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kyrgios<\/a>, who is not playing at this year’s championships due to injury<\/a>, has been at the Grand Slam every day working with media, including talkSPORT.<\/p>\n

Kyrgios was almost denied entry to WimbledonCredit: talkSPORT<\/p>\n

The Australian is a very recognisable face in the tennis world, considering he’s a former World No.13 and seven-time title winner.<\/p>\n

On top of that, he’s one of the biggest personalities in the sport. <\/p>\n

But a member of security staff at Wimbledon<\/a> didn’t seem to care about Kyrgios’ stature in the game. <\/p>\n

As he attempted to enter the tournament grounds and claim his credentials, the 30-year-old was denied. <\/p>\n

And after some back-and-forth, he ended up being body-searched. <\/p>\n

Revealing all about the awkward situation, Kyrgios joked on talkSPORT’s Wimbledon: Unfiltered<\/a>: “Look, I’m not normally one to say: ‘Do you know who I am?’ when I’m trying to get into events.<\/p>\n

“But today, my agent was like okay, let’s try and pick up your credentials just to save someone a ground pass and I was sitting there and she asked: ‘Do you have a photo ID?’<\/p>\n

“I had just got a new phone, because it was broken, I didn’t have any photos… and she laughed before she asked me, so she clearly knew who I was but was just following protocol.<\/p>\n

“I said, ‘do you reckon you could get me in and give me my credentials just one time’ and she was like: ‘No.’<\/p>\n

“I went: ‘Seriously? Please’, but they said they can’t do that.<\/p>\n

Kyrgios reached the Wimbledon final in 2022, when he lost to DjokovicCredit: Getty<\/p>\n

“Then I got body searched. They told me to put all of my stuff down and I got body searched.”<\/p>\n

Kyrgios was left in disbelief as he is also a former finalist at Wimbledon, playing Novak Djokovic<\/a> in 2022. <\/p>\n

He was beaten 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 in a thriller in the end, but his campaign at SW19 three years ago was special.<\/p>\n

That made it an even bigger surprise that he wasn’t welcomed through the doors of the grounds with ease. <\/p>\n

But security only did their job and it meant Kyrgios had to go through the usual protocols just like the public. <\/p>\n

On whether it had happened before, Kyrgios added: “Yes and no.<\/p>\n

“There’s been clips of Roger Federer<\/a> and Rafael Nadal<\/a> not being let into some changing rooms because they didn’t have credentials and stuff.<\/p>\n

“But I don’t know, me getting body searched in front of the crowd was something I’d never thought would happen to me at Wimbledon, but it did.”<\/p>\n

He continued: “It was probably just a Kyrgios treat… if you’re going to wear the back hat and be a villain, then you’ve got to deal with some of that stuff.<\/p>\n

“I did [keep it cool], I didn’t say ‘Do you know who I am?’. <\/p>\n

“I was asked do you have any ID, but I replied: ‘Does Google work?’. <\/p>\n

“I guess that was kind of like a little dig.” <\/p>\n
