<\/p>\nLiverpool players \u2013 including Northern Ireland\u2019s Conor Bradley – joined the mourners in Jota\u2019s hometown of Gondomar near Porto to pay their last respects.<\/p>\n
The father of three, who had recently married his long-term partner Rute Cardoso, was killed alongside his brother Andre Silva after their car burst into flames following a suspected tyre blowout in the early hours of Thursday.<\/p>\n
Ms Cardoso was embraced by mourners as she arrived for the service at Igreja Matriz de Gondomar church. Afterwards, she tenderly touched the coffin as it was led from the church.<\/p>\n
Others at the service were Liverpool manager Arne Slot, captain Virgil Van Dijk and team-mates including Bradley, Andy Robertson, Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo, Curtis Jones, Darwin Nunez and Joe Gomez.<\/p>\n

The mourners also included Jota\u2019s national team-mates Bruno Fernandes, of Manchester United; Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva, of Manchester City; Joao Felix and Renato Veiga of Chelsea; Nelson Semedo from Wolves; Joao Moutinho, Rui Patricio and Ruben Neves, as well as former Liverpool player Fabinho.<\/p>\n
Also present were Porto FC president Andre Villas-Boas and Portugal national team manager Roberto Martinez.<\/p>\n
Some of the players carried wreaths shaped like football shirts as they arrived at the church.<\/p>\n
Van Dijk carried a floral tribute with Jota’s number 20, while Robertson carried one with the number 30 for Andre Silva.<\/p>\n
Bishop of Porto Manuel Linda said that while attendees “did not want to be here,” they came “by faith” and “in solidarity with Diogo and Andre’s family”.<\/p>\n
Later, he addressed Jota’s children, who were not at the service, saying he was praying for them specifically, as well as their mother and grandparents.<\/p>\n
“There are no words, but there are feelings,” he said, adding: “We also suffer a lot and we are with you emotionally.”<\/p>\n

A sea of floral tributes had been left outside Anfield, with many Liverpool fans and supporters of other clubs looking to pay their respects.<\/p>\n
Flags have been lowered to half-mast at the stadium.<\/p>\n
Liverpool have postponed the players\u2019 return for pre-season training following Jota\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
Slot said the \u201csense of shock is absolute\u201d, adding: \u201cHe was a loved one to all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n
On Friday former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson looked visibly upset as he returned to Anfield with flowers and a club scarf. A sea of floral tributes has been left outside the ground.<\/p>\n
In an emotional tribute, Bradley said Jota was “an incredible footballer but an even better person\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I first moved up from the academy you were always there for me and always helped me settle in with the lads which I\u2019ll be forever grateful for,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy thoughts are with your wife, children and family for losing both Diogo and Andre. I can\u2019t imagine how tough this is for you all, as I know how tough this feels for me today.<\/p>\n
\u201cLove you Jots, and I\u2019m sure we will meet again.\u201d<\/p>\n
In Belfast, Liverpool supporters gathered to lay flowers outside the club\u2019s city centre merchandise store.<\/p>\n
The store was closed on Friday as a mark of respect, with cards and flowers laid in his honour.<\/p>\n
Jota and Silva were found dead after the car crashed on the A-52 in Palacios de Sanabria near the city of Zamora at 12.40am on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Police said they were investigating the possibility that the Lamborghini left the road because of a tyre blowout while overtaking, and a source from the government sub-delegation in Zamora confirmed “a possible speeding incident” was being looked at.<\/p>\n
Pictures of the aftermath of the crash showed debris scattered along the side of the road including what appeared to be charred parts of the vehicle.<\/p>\n
