Aston Villa are on track to receive a one-year ban from European football after the terms of UEFA\u2019s sanctions were outlined.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Midlands club\u2019s summer has so far been defined by the financial regulations of various governing bodies.<\/p>\n

Villa avoided a sanction from the Premier League after selling their women\u2019s team to V Sports<\/a>, chairman Nassef Sawiris\u2019 parent company that owns the club.<\/p>\n

However, after complying with the league\u2019s profit and sustainability rules (PSR), the next test will relate to UEFA\u2019s financial rules.<\/p>\n

The governing body\u2019s earning rules allow for losses of \u20ac60m (\u00a351.8m) over a three-year period, and in the last two years alone, Villa registered losses of \u00a3205.6m<\/a> [The Athletic<\/a>].<\/p>\n

And as a consequence, the Midlands club will pay fines of \u20ac11million (\u00a39.5m) for breaching the European governing body\u2019s financial regulations [The Athletic<\/a>].<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

However, the penalties for continued failure to remain compliant with UEFA\u2019s rules could have much stricter punishments, as outlined by football finance expert Stefan Borson.<\/p>\n

The Chelsea and Villa UEFA breaches\/sanctions will impact a number of PL teams this Summer. Newcastle and Forest can now see what restrictions they will receive this time next year. Both will have breached the \u20ac60m football earnings cap for the 3 years to 30 June 2025.<\/p>\n

Aston Villa must reduce losses or face ban from European football<\/strong><\/p>\n

The finance expert explained on X that, should Villa make losses over \u20ac85m next year up until June 2026, UEFA will ban the club from participation in European competition for one year.<\/p>\n

Concerningly for the club, last year\u2019s losses (2023\/24 period) were \u00a385.4m [BBC Sport<\/a>], which is \u20ac98.97m.<\/p>\n

Whilst their financial losses dipped massively from the year prior, Villa are currently on course to fail UEFA\u2019s limits based on the numbers available.<\/p>\n

The second, less severe, punishment on the table is a \u20ac5m fine should the Villains breach a limit of \u20ac65m in losses.<\/p>\n

However, the club have already begun making moves that will bring down their costs for the coming season.<\/p>\n

Whilst Jhon Duran\u2019s sale to Al-Nassr<\/a> will be registered on the accounts for the previous period, so too will Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio\u2019s loan fees and wages.<\/p>\n

Any further sales going forward will go towards their accounting numbers for the new period, meaning the sale of Kaine Kesler-Hayden to Coventry City<\/a> will boost their numbers, given the transfer took place on 1 July.<\/p>\n

The same can be said about getting the wages of players like Philippe Coutinho<\/a>, Kortney Hause, and Robin Olsen off the books.<\/p>\n

Whilst the current numbers suggest that it may be tight, Villa are clearly making moves to reduce their wages and costs in an effort to avoid further sanctions from UEFA.<\/p>\n

The biggest question now will be what Villa<\/a> do in the transfer market going forwards.<\/p>\n

The club narrowly missed out on a place in next year\u2019s Champions League, which will have major negative ramifications for their revenue, and therefore their spending.<\/p>\n

However, according to The Guardian<\/a>, Villa are \u201cconfident they can absorb the fine and strengthen Unai Emery\u2019s squad\u201d, whilst remaining in line with the financial objectives set for them by UEFA.<\/p>\n

Removing Coutinho\u2019s wages in particular will be a benefit, whilst several other players will be expected to leave, such as Emiliano Buendia who spent the latter part of last season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen.<\/p>\n

But whether it will be enough for the Midlands side to continue being active in the transfer market remains to be seen.<\/p>\n

Alternatively, Villa may continue exploring the possibility of selling Ollie Watkins<\/a>, Emi Martinez, or another first-teamer with a view to spreading the ensuing transfer funds across strengthening Emery\u2019s squad.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
