A billionaire\u2019s wife has been awarded \u00a3230million in Britain\u2019s third largest ever\u00a0divorce<\/a>\u00a0payout.<\/strong><\/p>\n The unnamed woman was threatened by her husband she would have to\u00a0work<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0\u2018at the tills in\u00a0Tesco<\/strong><\/a>\u2019 if she kept to a postnuptial agreement the couple signed in 2021.<\/p>\n A court found that her free will had been taken away by the man\u2019s coercive behaviour towards her.<\/p>\n The husband had sought to use scare tactics to \u2018frighten\u2019 the wife and even tried to \u2018drive a wedge\u2019 between her and her lawyer, the\u00a0Telegraph\u00a0<\/strong><\/a>reported.<\/p>\n The pair had started married life with \u2018zero\u2019 but made a fortune after the husband successfully floated his tech firm, netting him an estimated \u00a31.5billion.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\tSign up for all of the latest stories\t\t\t<\/p>\n Start your day informed with Metro’s News Updates<\/a><\/strong> newsletter or get Breaking News<\/a> <\/strong>alerts the moment it happens. <\/p>\n They moved to the UK six years later to give their three children an English education, according to the judgment.<\/p>\n Under the laws of their country of origin, known only as \u2018Country A\u2019, the couple equally owned all of the assets acquired during their marriage.<\/p>\n While the pair are thought to have once been worth \u00a31.82 billion, their wealth had declined to \u00a3545million by the time of divorce in 2022.<\/p>\n Her awarded bumper payout amounted to approximately 44% of the couple\u2019s assets.<\/p>\n Mr Justice Cobb, determining the case, said: \u2018I am satisfied, from all that I have read and heard, that the wife was ultimately placed in a position of obvious disadvantage.\u2019<\/p>\n Claire Gordon, a partner at Farrer and Co, the firm who represented the wife, said the family court judgement was a recognition of the impact a \u2018build-up of persistent and attritional conduct places on relationships\u2019.<\/p>\n She added: \u2018There does not need to be a \u2018blow up\u2019 event or an interaction for there to be improper pressure or control \u2013 the effects of such conduct are insidious.\u2019<\/p>\n Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@metro.co.uk<\/a>.<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n For more stories like this, <\/strong>check our news page<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n Arrow Arrow
