A woman, who has a gluten allergy, shared in a viral Reddit post that she was not able to get any of the bundt cakes made for people with food allergies at her boyfriend’s dad’s wedding<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
She said she confronted a family, who was not gluten-free, but took at least three plates of the gluten-free bundt cakes<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
One of the family members then approached her at the wedding and asked her to apologize to her husband for making him feel “uncomfortable”<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
A woman says she lost her cool at a wedding after a family took a majority of the gluten-free bundt cakes set aside for her and other guests with food allergies.<\/p>\n
The woman shared in a post<\/a> on Reddit\u2019s popular “Am I The A——” forum that she attended her boyfriend\u2019s dad\u2019s wedding and he took into account her \u201cgluten allergy\u201d by including a gluten-free dessert \u2014 bundt cakes \u2014 for her and other gluten-free guests.<\/p>\n However, when it was time for dessert, the woman was \u201cupset\u201d after finding out that all 10 of the gluten-free bundt cake slices were gone. She had been conversing with another guest when dessert was called, so she was late getting to the table.<\/p>\n \u201c… My boyfriend’s uncle (who is the only other GF person) came up to me with a cake and told me that all 10 cakes were gone and he had the last one, offering to share half,\u201d she recalled. \u201cI was upset. I know that only 2 people had an allergy there.\u201d<\/p>\n The Redditor went to investigate where the missing cakes had gone and found a family \u2014 who she said she knew was not gluten-free \u2014 eating three bundt cake slices. She said she asked the husband of the family if he was gluten-free and he told her that he preferred \u201cgluten-free\u201d cake because \u201cit tastes better.\u201d<\/p>\n She said she told him that she had a gluten allergy and wasn\u2019t able to have any cake, prompting an \u201cawkward\u201d moment between the two. This prompted his wife to offer a plate of the \u201cmostly eaten\u201d bundt cake they still had left. The woman said she declined and told them, \u201cNo, it\u2019s fine just next time don\u2019t eat allergen friendly food if you don\u2019t have an allergy.\u201d<\/p>\n The woman said sometime later while she was chatting with other guests, the wife came up to her and told her that it \u201cwasn\u2019t very nice\u201d what she said back at their table and said she made them feel \u201cvery uncomfortable.\u201d She also said that her husband felt \u201cbad and uncomfortable\u201d with her actions and asked her to \u201capologize to him.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI bit my tongue and went to talk to my boyfriend In private,\u201d the woman shared. \u201cI told him I was in fact not sorry and had no regret for calling out them eating MY allergy friendly food. He agreed with me and told me not to apologize and ignore the incident.\u201d<\/p>\n She then asked if she should have apologized to the family for making them uncomfortable. In response, several people noted that they felt she took it too far with how she handled the situation.<\/p>\n One person said, \u201cYour handling [of] the situation puts this one on you. It isn’t your place to attempt to shame someone’s buffet choice\u2026 Your quarrel isn’t with the unfortunate guest to whom you vented your frustrations, it’s with the servers\/caterers\/whoever was in charge of passing out the cake.\u201d<\/p>\n
