Bristol City have “done a lot of the hard work” with their early summer transfer business, but signing an attacking player who can create something out of nothing would be the “icing on the cake”, Leroy Rosenior has told Bristol Live<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Reds have been reasonably active in the opening month of the window, with three new faces already through the door at Ashton Gate. Plymouth Argyle’s Adam Randell has traded Home Park for south Bristol<\/a>, Joe Lumley has joined the Robins’ goalkeeping ranks after leaving Southampton, and former Preston North End striker Emil Riis has signed a three-year contract<\/a> in the West Country.<\/p>\n

So far, the only major departure of the summer has been Nahki Wells. The 35-year-old left BS3 as a free agent<\/a> after his contract expired at the end of the season, having scored 10 goals for the Reds in all competitions last term.<\/p>\n

Of course, a lot can change with a little under two months left of the window, but at the time of writing, Gerhard Struber’s squad<\/a> appears to be in good shape. While former Reds striker Rosenior believes the lack of depth, which came back to bite City late last season, has been dealt with, he still feels more quality in the final third wouldn’t go amiss.<\/p>\n

“Well, I’m fortunate because I don’t deal with budgets,” Rosenior told Bristol Live when asked what he’d still be keen to see the Robins add this summer. “But one thing you’re always looking for is that icing on the cake, as it were. That player that can create something from nothing.<\/p>\n

“We know there’s obviously Scott Twine and Anis Mehemti<\/a>. Scott’s scored some great free-kicks but I think he could do a little bit more in open play. Anis was the top goalscorer but Liam didn’t really trust him to put him in the side towards the end of the season when we were heading into the crunch period. I think maybe someone at the top end of the pitch and in the wide areas that is a little bit different.<\/p>\n

“Obviously, Yu Hirakawa<\/a>, who is just bedding in on that right-hand side. I like the look of him, but I think you can have someone who’s maybe got a little bit of real pace at the top end of the pitch. Someone who can really exploit and get behind someone. Someone who can maybe take players out in one-on-one situations.<\/p>\n

“I think that’s what they’ll be looking for and they’re always the most difficult ones to sign.<\/p>\n

“They’ve done a lot of the hard work now,” the former striker continued. “The squad is looking a lot healthier with the new signings and the extensions for Cam Pring and George Tanner as well. It’s looking like there’s more depth in the squad, now they maybe need to see if they can add a little bit more quality because this division, I think, is a lot tougher than it was last season.<\/p>\n

“With the teams coming down from the Premier League and the likes of Wrexham and Birmingham City coming up, I think it’s going to be a lot tougher this season. But, they’ve got a platform this group of players who finished sixth last year and they’ll want to push on.<\/p>\n

“For me, that special player – if he’s available and if they can get him – at the top end of the pitch would be really nice.”<\/p>\n

While the three teams relegated from the Premier League last term have arguably had slightly quieter than expected starts to the summer transfer window, Wrexham and, in particular, Birmingham City<\/a> have moved quickly to bolster their ranks.<\/p>\n

Chris Davies’ side were promoted as League One champions last season and have already made six signings with James Beadle and Tommy Doyle joining on loan from Brighton and Wolves respectively, Alfons Sampdted making the permanent move from Twente, Phil Neumann from Hannover, Demari Grary from Al-Ettifaq and Bright Osayi-Samuel from Fenerbache.<\/p>\n

Unsurprisingly, Blues are already being viewed by many as one of the favourites to win promotion this term<\/a>, alongside Ipswich Town and Southampton, who will be keen to make an immediate bounce back to the Premier League.<\/p>\n

Of course, it is impossible to determine the strength of the division before a ball has been kicked, but the general consensus appears to be that City will need more than the 68 points they accumulated last season to secure a play-off place.<\/p>\n
