He was speaking on the cost of sacking managers, and when discussing compensation, named the \u2018smartest thing\u2019 the Thai businessman has done.<\/p>\n

Maguire said: \u201cIf the manager is good then, and we saw when Graham Potter went from Swansea to Brighton, I think there was \u00a32m compensation, when Steve Bruce went from Sheffield Wednesday to Newcastle, which is probably the smartest thing that Dejphon Chansiri has done in his reign, admittedly, possibly there\u2019s not a lot of competition.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

There were a lot of disappointed people when I left, which I understand, but most would\u2019ve understood I had to take the opportunity.<\/p>\n

\u201cI simply had to take it to manage them, I\u2019m from there. Most people will say my time was this, that and the other, but I had to take it. It wasn\u2019t easy, but I\u2019m a Newcastle lad who has managed Newcastle \u2013 not many can say that. I had to make an awful decision, but I simply couldn\u2019t refuse. You make decisions in your life, and you stay with them. Some of the ones you make are right, and some you might not make at all.
