Niall McGinn<\/p>\n

Northern Ireland winger Niall McGinn says he can\u2019t wait to held to familiar surroundings after joining Scottish League One side Peterhead following his departure from Glentoran.<\/p>\n

The 37-year-old winger has signed a one-year contract at the Buchan club, which is located just 30 miles north of Aberdeen where he spent the majority of his career.<\/p>\n

McGinn made 358 appearances for Aberdeen across two spells at Pittodrie, winning the League Cup with them in 2014, and played the majority of his international football during that time as well.<\/p>\n

The former Dungannon Swifts star, who also had stints with Derry City, Celtic and Dundee, returned to Northern Ireland with Glentoran in 2023 but spent last season on loan at Greenock Morton.<\/p>\n

Now, despite interest from the Swifts in a reunion, he will return to northern Scotland where he will link up with former Aberdeen team-mates Peter Pawlett and Cammy Smith.<\/p>\n

“Delighted to be back up in the north of Scotland in Aberdeenshire, back to where I played the best part of my career and enjoyed my football the most,\u201d said the 72-times capped winger, one of the Kings of Lyon from Euro 2016.<\/p>\n

“It’s great to join a club with ambition and off the back of a promotion last season. I’m familiar with the players such as Peter Pawlett and Cammy Smith, and of course Jordon (Brown, manager), who I played with at Aberdeen also, so I’m looking forward to getting together with the group.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brown commented: “Niall needs no introduction and we are delighted that we have been able to add him to the group. He is a top pro who hasn\u2019t played at a lower level than the Championship in Scotland and has shown a commitment in moving back over to Aberdeen still with a top attitude to succeed.<\/p>\n

“When we were aware of this opportunity it was one we couldn\u2019t pass up. The experience and goal threat Niall brings having been full time his whole career will be crucial in helping our young group and ticks that areas in particular where we were focused on improving.<\/p>\n
