The family of a Welsh backpacker who went missing while travelling in Bangkok, Thailand say he has been found. Daniel Davies last spoke to his family on March 13, when he had been staying at the Hangover Hostel, prompting concern for his welfare.<\/p>\n
The 26-year-old had last been seen on the island of Koh Phi Phi, a popular spot for British tourists, and his disappearance was described by his family as \u201chighly out of character.\u201d Now, in an update to those helping the appeal, his aunt, Nicola Doran, has said Mr Davies has been found.<\/p>\n
She wrote: “Update, he has been found. Thank you for all your help.”<\/p>\n
Mr Davies’s family had launched the appeal after they had not had contact with him for over four weeks.<\/p>\n
A missing person\u2019s report was filed by Dyfed-Powys Police, who worked with Thai officers to try and locate Mr Davies, from Llanelli<\/a>. Stay informed on Carmarthenshire news by signing up to our newsletter here<\/a>.<\/p>\n In her original appeal, Mr Davies’s aunt, Nicola Doran, wrote: \u201cMy nephew Daniel Davies has gone missing in Bangkok, Thailand. He’s been reported and is now a missing person. No one has had any contact in weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n And his friend Lucia Froom said: “Daniel’s phone is switched off and no one has heard from him in weeks, which isn’t like him at all.<\/p>\n “If anyone knows anyone in Thailand or is planning a trip there soon, can people please keep an eye out for him.”<\/p>\n Missing persons charity Echoes of the Lost also joined the appeal to find Mr Davies, alongside SARS Cymru.<\/p>\n Dyfed-Powys Police explained the process when someone goes missing abroad.<\/p>\n It said the investigation and search is the responsibility of the local police in the country the person is missing in.<\/p>\n It adds on its website: “The UK police will contact the local police via the European SIRENE system or via Interpol.<\/p>\n “As well as contacting the police, you should also contact the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO)<\/a> on +44 (0)207 008 1500<\/a>.<\/p>\n “Ask for consular support for the country the person is missing in.”<\/p>\n Get daily breaking news updates on your phone by joining our WhatsApp community here<\/a>.
